The New, Improved, Better-Than-Ever PC Sports Thread

The old sports thread is too long. It's becoming a threat to older, longer, more established threads. Time for a new one. Enjoy.

Lacrosse? Really?

It was to placate the Indians when we coerced their land out of them. I don't think it even qualifies as a professional sport.

My memories of lacrosse are painful.  back in high school, lacorsse was a woman's sport.  When, for whatever reason, the boys soccer or baseball teams weren't able to have their practices, we'd wander over and challenge the girls to a lacross game.  Which really was just stupid of us, because "boys vs girls" lacrosse really pretty much meant "girls beating the crap out of the boys with sticks for 40 minutes."

Lacrosse has some of the dumbest rules in any sport.  You're allowed (nay, encouraged--even as a small child) to cross-check your opponent repeatedly in the back, but you're not allowed to use your off-hand to try to protect yourself and the ball from someone who wants to beat you with their stick.

I think my glory day in gym class was a lacrosse session where I was cross-checked in the spine, then got up and clocked the guy in the back of the head with a real Babe Ruth windup. I got a day off school, and he got an ambulance ride. Win-win!

I loved lacrosse! When I went to a private school I was on the lacrosse team and the field hockey team (only junior varsity, though). One of the only times in my life that I can remember really enjoying physical sports. I think it's because I was a bigger girl than most of the others and posed a fairly formidable defense. I still had my lacrosse stick for a long time, too. Kept it for sentimental reasons and finally gave it away a couple of years ago. Ahh, I remember showing off proud crescent-shaped scars on my arms... *sniff*

Somehow it's difficult to imagine Charles beating people up, but it's easy to imagine Caryn wielding a lacrosse stick with a crazed look in her eye...

The Wings are gonna roll right over Calgary. Colorado is gonna kick the shit out of San Jose. Tampa Bay is gonna get donkey punched by Montreal. And TO will beat Philly.

Toronto, Tampa, Detroit and Colorado goes to the semi-finals. that's what, Toronto vs. Tampa and Colorado vs. Detroit? I'm thinking Toronto wins Stanley Cup after beating Colorado.

Maybe Tampa won't beat Montreal, but it doesn't matter -- Toronto can beat either of those teams.

I think they'll all be good series except Detroit - Calgary.  Calgary is tired and not that good to begin with.  Sure, they beat a more talented Vancouver team, but now they're playing a more talented team that knows how to protect a lead.

San Jose doesn't get any respect despite being one of the three best teams in the league.  Pundits were picking them as the most likely to get upset in the first round and they're practically being treated as underdogs in the second.  I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Sharks take the series in 6.  A lot of it depends on Aebischer.  Against Dallas he was Roylike, but he's still a playoff rookie.

I want Toronto and Montreal to win, but I really don't see it happening.  Philly will beat up the already beat-up Leafs, and Tampa has something Boston didn't: second line scoring.

Perhaps I should restate that as "a team that doesn't routinely have defensive breakdowns leaving guys alone in front of the net".  Iginla was able to out-muscle Ohlund.  If the Wings want they can put Hatcher and Lidstrom on the ice at the same time; that's just unfair.

They didn't lose Hedberg, they yanked him. It was a good series, best of the first round, could have gone either way.

Whichever - There was one that was actually the vendors that rebadge as Dell, Panasonic, etc that are a lot cheaper.  We were looking at one from Dell for $900 - Still a shitload more powerful than her desktop P3 266.

but they really don't carry anything on the low end worth getting. It's not that they carry rebadged Dells, it's that they buy from the same place Dell does. But on the low end, Dell is usually cheaper. Now, if you are talking the high end, they tend to be a good 600-1000 bucks cheaper than say the Alienware version or whatever.
