This thread comes along after I was cleaning up old files on my webshare up at work.  I remember seeing the ad and the lines just drew themselves as I stared at its colorful joy.  I think I even went so far as to animate it, because I had 8 seperate pictures that slowly constructed the final image.  I sent the final image link to a friend of mine over AIM, and I guess I haven't been very productive today since then, since it's still there.  Damn, but I used to have a lot of free time on my hands to come up with stupid shit....ah, the good old days.

Coming late to the party

Ring Cannon

The modern-day equivalent to the Hailstorm. However, it’s principle of operation is reversed. Each barrel is active, and fired sequentially around the circumference, giving each barrel time to cool before the next shot. The superheated plasma charges it fires are only mildly effective on their own, but a Ring Cannon firing in full Helix mode can be devastating to an opponent.
Plasma charges degrade over a relatively short distance, so try to bring your target in close before firing.

Secondary fire pulse-fires each barrel simultaneously, but requires longer to recharge and cool between shots. Only use when you’re sure of your target.

Good bike, Trek makes solid frames (the frame on my bike I'm riding currently is a Trek actually) and anything other than Shimano is unacceptable really. However, it's a road bike. So, ugh.

I need something that I can do 20+ miles a day as quickly as possible (hence a road type bike) however I'm after something thats a little more rugged (hence a cyclocross with slightly fatter tyres that can happily handle some mud, mountain bike brakes, high ratio gears, etc).

I've had Treks for the last couple of bikes (which keep getting stolen) but I'm moving out of London in a month so I'll finally be able to have a bike without the risk of it getting knicked within 24 hours.

I ride a Jamis Dakar Sport.  Full mountain bike (dual suspension), so not really recommended for 20+ mile road biking, but if I stiffen up the back shock, it does pretty well.  Great on the mountain, though saying such things is somewhat relative as a few of the people I ride with have Kona Stinky Dee-luxes and similar bikes that can take 5-6 foot drops without even feeling them.  The Dakar...cannot.   But I'm not enough of a hardcore biker to justify paying used-car prices for one.

Matt: Why do you make yourself suffer so much?

Around here it's easy. If you have a fancy expensive bike, it gets stolen no matter how many locks you string on it. If your bike is unlocked it gets stolen no matter how crappy it is. And when I say crappy I mean near and even beyond rust breaktrough.

So I ride a normal looking bike with a normal looking lock. No bike stolen from me yet!

I tolerate everything except intolerance.

I drive a car too when I'm not riding a bike.

I don't wear Spandex pants when riding.  I usually wear shorts (not biking shorts, just normal shorts).  Don't quite understand the appeal of biking clothes for non-racers. The slightly reduced air drag really isn't all that important for commuting to work and they are kind of a pain to wash regularly (which is a good idea unless you're some kind of dirty fungus lover) unless you own like 5 pairs.

And even with shorts, it is rare to shiver on a bike here in San Diego -- though today would qualify since it is kind of cold and rainy (and thus a 'car day' for me).

Yeah one of my good friends who I ride/train with has a full suspension  (6 in. travel on front, 4 in back) Santa Cruz Bullet which put him back a good 3-4 grand I don't remeber the exact price. It's a wonderful bike, I've ridden it and it's smooth as all hell; great for singletrack, drops, jumps etc. Not to metion being able to completely bomb it on downhills. It's really sweet on stairs and the like when we go for an urban ride too. That being said, there is no way in hell I could ever justify dropping that much money on a bike.

I used to cycle some 300 miles a week when I was younger, and then I broke my kneecap, 3 years later and lots of physio and acupuncture I could get a bike again, but its was a false economy to get a bike that could handle high milage, as insurance on bikes is a nightmare.

Moving out of London means I can get back to doing my passion on a regular basis, and get a lot fitter because of it.

I'm also learning to drive at the moment (seeing as I'm 30 now), my test is March 4th 2004, but driving to work is pretty difficult as theres no parking whatsoever.

Shadarr "You wanna summarize that Hulka?"

Basically the issue I take offense to is that the seizure of Mr. Limbaugh's private medical records without going through the process outlined by the state legislature is clearly an invasion of Mr. Limbaugh's constitutional right to privacy.

This is the same state where the Florida Supreme Court decided to change election law in the middle of the process, in order to keep counting counties that had been counted over and over again in an effort to make the numbers push Algore into a win.

That's all.  Get used to it I guess.

I agree, nor do I.  I wasn't sympathizing with the popular radio host.  You'll realize that when you re-read my inital statement "Fucking Florida Nazis".  Hitler would be proud.

My issue was with the corrupt politicians in Florida who ignored the laws on the books in that state.  The opportunity for this precedent to become commonplace is enough to warrant a second look at exactly what happend to a private citizens medical records.

Perhaps when employers can gain access them too and you're denied work you'll understand better.

Hulka, my feeling is the man has made (quite a profitable) career over kicking his various political targets for years, very frequently shading the truth, employing copious logical fallacies and chidlishly insulting language (feminazi's, etc), and generally being an asshole. Now, after throwing stones, pandering to his dittoheads, and spouting racist, sexist, homophobic, moralistic drivel, and doing his level best to belittle, discredit, and ruin his political targets, it turns out he lives in his own little glass house, and he's whining that people are treating him unfairly.   Karma is a bitch. This has nothing to do with him being a conservative, there are plenty of conservatives I respect, even while I disagree with them.

Shadarr, those are all anonymous leaks.  There are NO prosecutions for those "rumored" offenses.  The only thing that they can even attempt to get him on is Doctor shopping, but of the four doctors he visited, one was a replacement for another, who worked in the same office, and the other two worked in LA at the same place.  All legal prescriptions for his degenerated disk in his back, and his loss of hearing issue.  His big mistake was becomming addicted to them.  Is that a crime?  If so, prosecute him for that, but this anonymous leak bullshit is the work of nazis.

Then again, Nazi doesn't carry the weight it used to.  Nazi is passe anymore.  Nobody really understand the pure evil that was the Nazi party.  Today, kids are more afraid of someone who smokes or drives an SUV.

I fear the future.
