Max no longer a payne for 3D Realms
May 24th 2002, 18:09 CEST by Matt Davis

Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. has Announced Max Payne 2 Is In Development, and in something of a surprise they've also purchased Max Payne's Intellectual Property Rights from Remedy Entertainment and Apogee Software for the measly sum of $10 million in cash and 969,932 shares of restricted common stock.

Take-Two also announced that it has acquired ownership of the Max Payne brand and all intellectual property rights associated with the brand, including trademarks, copyrights, characters, perpetual license to utilize proprietary technologies, including the Max Payne game engine and associated "Bullet Time(TM)" technology, and rights to license fees from ancillary Max Payne brand extensions such as cinema, television and literary productions.

You can see the full statement here

So is this some pocket money for George and Scott? Does this to allow DNF to stay in development for longer? or did Apogee decide that theres room for only one virtual ego in the office?

I do like the AA'd fonts which I don't have with Galeon.

See that little widget at the end of the address combo that gives you a list of the most recent sites you've visited ? That's my favourites menu right there.

This also sounds cool.
Although I dock my history.

Bookmarking for me is generally for those sites that I DON'T visit often but know I'll need to go back to. I have some sites on Flash tutorials, for instance, whose URLs I'll never remember -- maybe there's a specific tutorial, for instance, on something I do every so often but can't seem to remember, so I bookmark that specific one because the URL isn't one I'm going to remember.

Exactly.

>>> working at Burger King as a teenager, I never ate the fish sandwich.

Same with me working at Whataburger for two greasy years.  My big question is, What is a fish sandwich?  Doesn't anyone care to know what kind of fish?  Aren't there dozens of possible fishes it could be?  My guess is that those highly processed patties a lovely mix of 4-6 variable fish, depending on what's in season, and then delicately fried to a fish-lover's perfection.  To fish eaters--and I'm not one of them--it just doesn't seem to matter.  As long as it's "fish" it's quite okay.  But you can be pretty damn sure no one would ever eat a "meat sandwich" without asking what the hell is in it.

yeah, but at least we know it's a cow. Its not a dog, it's not a pig, it's not korean.

With a fish sandwich, all you have is that it comes from something in the water. Maybe. Might have scales, might have 8 legs, might have been some funky looking thing stuck to the bottom of the boat. If you can't get a bit more specific then species, I really don't want to eat it.

chris are you my long-lost twin brother? Well the GWAR post spoiled it all, otherwise it was all bulls eye.

One reason (apart from favourites/bookmarks being pretty useless for me) I'm not using bookmarks anymore is because I always forgot to backup them when I was to reinstall the OS. I mean I have a brain, I could at least use it for something. That something being remembering URLs, the few ones I need to remember.

Ok, back to the main topic for a minute.

Last night I sat down in the living room to play some games on the ol' XBox. I settled upon Max Payne and started playing. My wife came in and sat down next to me and started working on some project (work-related, if you must know). After a minute she looks up at the TV and says, "ahh, you're playing Max Payne". Now, it's important to understand - she just has no interest in games. It's not that she doesn't like them, they just don't register on her radar at all. I can convince her to play DOA3 for about 10 minutes when guests are over and everyone is playing, but that's it. Yet, somehow, she knew who Max Payne was. She knew from last time I had played (on the PC even!) at least six months ago. It stuck with her. I'm still not sure I ever told her, "honey, this consitpated man's name is Max". She just knew. (cue eerie music)

I'm not sure that's worth 40 mil, but it's gotta be worth something.

Get a bigger monitor, and a high quality one at that. TV's low res really sucks when you've seen it @ 1600x1200x32bit.

There are reasons to prefer playing on TV over monitors that trump resolution.  Many games, even if they're single player, are fun to play with spectators.  GTA3 is definitely an example of this.  For many folks, the TV in the livingroom or den is a much better "theater" to show off a fun new game than a computer in an office or bedroom.

For the player, again, the livingroom couch or recliner may simply be a much more comfortable place to enjoy gaming for hours on end.  It also may well have a far superior sound system to pipe through than the system on the computer.

Also, I have a friend for whom sitting in front of a monitor leads to eyestrain and then headaches, he can tolerate sitting halfway across the room from a TV screen much better.

Besides, TV gaming generally means console gaming. No installs, no driver updates, no incompatibilities, no crashes.  Eliminating that aspect of the gaming experience means as much to some people as "1600x1200x32".

I play computer games on my 19" monitor at 16x12x32x4xaa.

I prefer my couch.

Seriously. I even have nice speakers on my computer, but I have nicer ones in the living room. The comfort of the couch + coffee table with feet up, beer nearby, and occasionally wife sitting by me far supercedes any resolution advantage. I mean, I like graphics as much as the next guy (I *did* buy an XBox and not a PS2, hah) - but at the end of the day, a game that looks good will look good at 640 or 1600. I also prefer controller to mouse. Mice hurt my wrists, controllers don't.
