If he only wasn't so horribly evil...</td></tr></table>Three of you emailed me little stories about a well-known (not for quality, although it's not as much of a waste of time as this place here) gaming news & commentary site which isn't going to get any further free Sierra games anymore because its virtuous Editor In Chief did something that's not really much worse than any of the other crap he's been doing for a while now. No, I'm not going to post any of them. Just ignore the idiot. He's just a poor, lonely American. You should be glad he doesn't walk around shooting people between the eyes. One of you even wrote: "Personally, I think [the site] should be put out of business." You fool. Do you think you're any better than him when you say something like that? From the AO department: people are now <a href="http://community.mystics.de/board/view/?C=1&B=1&E=0&L=994151408&P=0&O=0&M=994196960-19164">complaining</a> about not being able to find their friends (who they just started to play with) in the "newbie zone". If you know AO, you'll at least giggle now. I did my taxes today. I hate the world. |

The opening of the game where you're standing on the dock hits between 8-12 fps for me as well. The inside levels (UNATCO) are smooth as butter though. |

sure just as soon as I figure out how to get the damn console back again, or rather get the Talk mode showmachinestats to pop up again. oh and I know the results on a clean install will be poor, it needs the updated D3d driver at very least and direct x 8.1 and the latest UT d3d and GL drivers help it along famously for now, I`ve gotta go outside and help put some fencing up, so Ill get to it later on. Ill be very surprised if it dips below 30fps tho, cos I got through those firefights no problem the first time round. Ds |

Ds To get the console in Deus Ex, do this... 1) Add the command line -hax0r to your DX shortcut (no joke) 2) Open up the user.ini and find the line that says "tilde=" and change it to "tilde=type". There's two instances of that line in user.ini, change both of them. Save the file 3) Open Dues Ex, then press tilde to get the "quick console" or shift+tilde to get the full console. |

Just note them. Also note the versions of the UT D3D and GL drivers and, if possible, try in D3D and GL modes. For your stats to be of any worth to anyone, you have to let us know all the differences between "DEUS EX - THE CD" and "DEUS EX - THE HARDDRIVE". That's all. Cheeeeeerz! |

ok update. my rig Asus 7700 Geforce 2 GTS 32mb, no overclocking agp 2 x Abit Ka7-100 AMD slot A motherboard AMD k7 - 1000 Mhz (No overclock) Vos32 aluminium cooler with 2x Panaflo 60mm fans 2 x 256mb cas 2 pc133 SDram (crucial brand) Hercules Game Theater Adaptec 29160 scsi card 10gb IBM 36zlx u160 disk (boot) Seagate baracuda 18gb u160 scsi x 2, 1 games, 1 storage 2 x ibm GV40 40gb eide ata 100 disks (movies/mp3s/files) slot load scsi 2 pioneer dvd (deregioned) samsung ide 8x4x24 cdr/w GLobalwin 802 case 2x 80mm panaflo fans in the case (induct/extract) Ennermax 350w Psu with 120mm + 80 mil extractors Operating system windows 2000 with service pack 1 Nvidia 12.91 (beta) Drivers Latest drivers for everything clean install of Deus Ex, patched to Multiplayer patch and latest Epic D3d & OGL. playing at 1024x768 in 32bit colour, high detail textures, curved surfaces, shiny surfaces, trilinear filtering, fulscreen AA turned off, vsync turned off, d3d input, direct input on (I can post the whole config if you want). Hardware 3d sound turned on (thats 20% of your frame rate right there, but hey, I like it) results D3d, Hells kitchen firefight approaching from the bottom end up toward the picnic tables, (with timedemo 1 running), I lobbed a few gas grenades, attacked all of them full on (god mode) and basically there were about 15 people on screen. Max Fps during firefight dipped to about 15, with just the surviving unacto (4 or 5 standing around) Max fps 45. OpenGL, results pending as Im getting a funky halo around the guns (muzzle flash thing), similar frame rates, but the textures look better. bear in mind thats with _everything_ cranked to the max and if I had some extra time to spend I could tweak out better fps. drop it down one res to 8x600 and you probably double that frame rate, drop it down to 16 bit as well, and another boost.... and 15fps is plenty to snipe with :) Ds |

I'd love to have one region free player around so I can get imports. Red Dwarf is on DVD but only in Region 2 (I think that's Europe). Which sucks when you're an American fan. Funk. |

There's a program out there called DVD Genie that will allow you to change your region on the fly. Of course, it only works with DVD-ROM drives. |

not using dvd genie :) the firmware on the drive is quite older, ie its only about a 3x dvd (30x cdrom speeds), there used to be a little solder tab on the back of the '5' flash rom, take that blob away and the drive is effectively regionfree. but dvdgenie is a good software workaround as well. Max Fps during firefight dipped to about 15 Okay, now yoink your vidcard and slap in a V5, change nothing else, and do it again :) Not really necessary, I suppose, although a betting pool on the actual number would be a hoot. |
