I'm moving this summer, tell me where to
May 2nd 2012, 03:48 CEST by Milan Brezovský I know this is a weak attempt to add a new topic to the front page, but why not. I'm leaving my job at the end of May. Then I want to start working on my own projects. My flatmate is moving out by the end of June, so my boring options are 1. find a new flatmate 2. move to a different apartment within Prague Or, you know, I could just try something new. Let’s say I want to spend up to 800 € per month for everything, incl. the rent. So let’s say 400 € rent, 200 € food, 200 € internet, phone, mass transit and a minimum of fun. My requirements are: - I need to be able to be there without a visa, or with an absolute minimum of paperwork. I don’t mind being there 3 months and then moving elsewhere. - I cannot stand more that 22 degrees Celsius to function. - I prefer politically stable governments, which is to say, nowhere on Earth. My candidates are: - Iceland, I could get a tiny room for like 320 €. I love the nature. I don’t mind the weather. I could hang out with Gaggle. - Scandinavia. I seem to get along well with people from there. - Poland. I haven’t done much research, but again, friendly people + the language (basics) should be relatively easy to learn. - New Zealand - although I don’t want to fly there + care about a visa. I could stay 3 months on a visitor visa. - Balkan - Serbia, Croatia, Romania? Haven’t done any research yet. In general, I would prefer English-speaking countries. UK seems too expensive and I don’t trust the political scene there; I don’t care about USA except for my friends there; Canada also seems to grow more immigrant-unfriendly, and most of other EU states are too expensive or unable to accommodate lazy ass like me who doesn’t speak anything useful but English. I might also just couchsurf around Europe for a few months to see the world and then settle down wherever I like, after experiencing the culture for myself (or just return to Prague). |

So... Diablo III right? |
In a few hours. |
I've skipped D2 so I'm in no hurry to play it. Actually, seeing as I'm exchanging my desktop for a notebook with a low-end graphics card next month, I'll be glad if I can run Torchlight 2, which I'm kinda curious about. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
Diablo 3 stress test stressed my PC when playing with 3 or 4 players. Not sure if it's for me. Torchlight 2 beta, by comparison, did not punish my PC with 4 other players (5 total). As much as I'd like to play D3 with crappers (and I might break down eventually), I'm not sure it will be a good experience with my PC's CPU at the minimum end. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

It runs great for me as a single player game. Game Developers: Don't forget the zombie monkeys.
It even runs on my Mac Mini. |
I had a good time duoing with my brother up to about level 12. Got past the beta content. |
I buckled and got it. Apparently Blizzard is buckling, too, cause no one can play. What a bunch of shit heads. At least it seems to run better than during the stress test. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
Actually it would run great for me as a single player game if that was it was. Instead it's an online game whose servers seem to be down alot. Game Developers: Don't forget the zombie monkeys.
I've had only one instance of getting booted from the server, for like 5 mins. Otherwise it's been fine. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" - "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."

of course I had to create a new battlenet account as my old one is either hacked or I totally don't remember it at all. ID is lpmiller#1776. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" - "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."

I'm just happy it runs on my 2 year old Macbook Pro so I can play in bed. Haven't tried multiplayer yet though. jjohnsen#1778 |

I'm looking for a TV series (from probably PBS), where they tell you how something/an invention came to be. The one show I watched and do somewhat remember was something like "How Air Condition was invented". All the shows were hosted by the same guy I believe. Started out I think with something about mosquitoes and malaria and blah blah blah blah 30 or 40 minutes later...and that's how AIR CONDITIONING came to be. Anyone know? Thx! Zep-- w0rd up!
Connections? Don't forget garnishes such as: Fish shaped solid waste.
It is definitely Connections and I love that series too. |
That is it! Thx! On net flix or anywhere by chance? Zep-- w0rd up!
Are we your google now? Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.

Yes, Zooey. |
Thanks, Gabe! Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.

Hey motherfucking Siri, I need you to remind this motherfucker that he needs to make some risotto tonight. |
I would have googled it but there wrer too many snakes on that mother fuckin plane! Zep-- w0rd up!
Turns out they are all (most) on youtube, jamesburkeweb channel. Zep-- w0rd up!
There's also "The Day the Universe Changed", an ancillary series by Burke. However, if you watch S1E1 of "Connections", you do get a nice creepy 911 thing going on. REMEMbER DESCENT THE HIGHEST FORM of PATRIOTiC

WTF. Seriously PSN...starting 5 days off, a wallet full of dough to buy entertaining things, and you're down? fufufufu Zep-- w0rd up!

Should have gotten an 360. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
Should have gotten Wii twice. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
The day has been saved somewhat by Uncharted 3 arriving from Gamefly. Zep-- w0rd up!

I'm going to play this game a bit differently. I'm moving and I'll tell you where. I'm moving from Whidbey Island to Port Angeles. We are moving out into the boonies a bit, but not too much. Really nice place, private and the family loves it. I'm with them on how awesome it is, but I'm a bit worried too. Because it's the boonies, I'd be a 2.5 hours commute to the nearest software development place if the virtual job were to go belly up. That's a good thing really, in that I don't want to live near a city anymore, but... it's all my safety net. I have no doubt I can get a job in any city in this country. Do I have doubts about getting another job easily while living out in the woods. So I'm little nervous about the idea. That said, I think I will do it anyway. Can't always leap with a safety net involved. And the house and the town and the people and the internet and the schools all seem MUCH better than where I am now. I could see myself living there for years and years to come (which is the point). Just, you know, it's hard to see the future. Four Hour Work Week. Believe in yourself. Screw commuting. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.

Alternatively, buy a used microlight. "One part disembowels me while another slowly eats its way through the gas line. As I bleed out on the floor, it reminds me that I need to buy milk." - Jibble

Good luck man! |
Alternatively, ditch the family, buy a used fleshlight. Zep-- w0rd up!
Good luck and I'm happy if you're happy but... Port Angeles is kind of a hole. Not so much "ooh cool, we're out in nature and away from the bustle of city life" and more backwater redneck mill town. "I hope you one day decide to smarten the fuck up so I can stand to look at your posts." - gaggle
Really? I went through there and really liked it. I don't mind some redneck, and it had a good portion of people trying to eat well (first thing we found was a csa) and more local food than anything we've had in Oak Harbor. And the google told me it has a pretty sweet farmer's market year round. We still haven't signed papers, but it's looking hopeful and wonder of wonders, the internet will be better 10m outside of Port Angeles on the side of a mountain more than it is here on Whidbey. Silly shit. "programmers talk from a very deep gnome cavern, full of gold mechanics" - wisdom from the ancients

I once spent a summer on Camano. The best signal would be described as UHF. REMEMbER DESCENT THE HIGHEST FORM of PATRIOTiC

OH LOOK they've made a video based on a planetcrap event/meme/troll. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
I don't remember that one (not its connection to PC, I mean), but now that even the AV Club has decided to cover The Thick of It, it's high time you all did so as well. It's bloody brilliant, I must say. ¤ "Apple hates everyone now." - BJB
I'll make a mental note and follow through in a couple of years. I'm enjoying Community very much, maybe next I'll start with Dexter or Sherlock or something. Besides Avengers, the movie highlight of recent months was a documentary called Urbanized. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
Oh also I might spend July in Köszeg. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
Dexter was kind of a mess in this latest season. |
It's hard to top the superfriends season with Julia Stiles, but it's still a fun show. Although I'll admit, the twist at the end is retarded every time I see it. And that includes Fight Club. "I hope you one day decide to smarten the fuck up so I can stand to look at your posts." - gaggle
This is the season with the religious motif? Yeah it was odd, uninteresting characters and a fairly lame twist. Rather too Shyamalan-esque. |
Prometheus isn't bad but I bet expectations are important. I went into it not having seen trailers or knowing anything about it and came out thinking it's, we'll, not bad. But not good either. It's overall a pretty dumb movie, but I liked certain small parts enough that it made me think about the movie after leaving the cinema which I'm counting as a positive. And I didn't even mind the 3D. |
That's not a very good review of Prometheus...but then again it's gaggle, so let me check some other sources too...RT says 79% right now. Sounds like maybe gaggle is spot on this time? Anyone else see it? I just recently saw Snow White & The Huntsman, which was actually a good movie right until the last third where it got confused and the editing/flow went to shit. I do not recommend. "programmers talk from a very deep gnome cavern, full of gold mechanics" - wisdom from the ancients
I'm always spot on, sometimes I'm just ahead of my time. |
79 percent is good on RT. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" - "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."
