Pretty much any security camera that has analog-out uses BNCs. Good luck getting the security industry to change that, especially since if a company is going to replace their hardware they'll just use an IP camera solution. |

My old tube TV did side by side instead of PIP. It was actually kind of cool. Could scale the % of screen area afforded to input and toggle which had audio. Seems like something mostly abandoned, and honestly I don't miss it. |

XML? More like XMHELL. First time i've ever really played with it at work...but...this shit looks like a poor mans text file database, however, they (some past code monkey(s) at work) are building XML FROM THE DATABASE and THEN loading a gridcontrol from the XML...WTF? For grins (and to see if I really was not retarded and crazy) I re-coded one portion to load the gridcontrol directly from the database..and uh..loads of useless code trimmed and gridcontrol populates fine. Either *I* don't get it or the guy before me thought XML was the shiznit..or sumtin and it had to be used everywhere. My thought now is, FUCK XML. Some crazy neckbeard must have invented that shit. XML is just fine, your coworkers probably thought "Let's make it in XML because after that we can do anything with it!" [YAGNI] or "I don't understand databases, can you export it to XML for me?" Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.

Btw thanks Caryn for your post on iPad. I ended up kinda impulse buying one. It's surprisingly heavy! I found the Readability app way better than Instapaper (which I've been using up until now), so I moved all my bookmarks into Readability. Got Reader for rss', but looking into Flipboard atm. It looks great I'm just not sure it's intended as an RSS reader (though it does support pulling from Google Reader). iMockup, Sketchbook, iDraw, Snapseed and Koder are on my planned download list so more experiences to come (only planned because I fucked up a few weeks ago and burnt through my allowed bandwidth cap for the month, woe is me. Even my phone's bandwidth is at 200%). Anyone with iPad thoughts, tricks and insight do share them. |

If you start doing a lot of drawing and sketching you're going to want one of these. Don't even bother with any other stylus, they're all crap compared to this one, which is superb. |

Also, iDraw just had a big update and the app is pretty damn close to the same functionality you'd find in Illustrator. I'm really, really impressed with it. I've been doing a bunch of stuff with it lately: this, this, this, and this (work in progress). |
