The Future of Planetcrap's Message Board
January 7th 2012, 08:01 CET by Charles With Quarter to Three in the process of becoming a forum that no one can post on at all (with a current 1/15th of the posts belonging to banned users), is this finally Planetcrap's chance to regain the spotlight? Will the site revive? WILL MORN COME BACK? Probably not. |

I started reading Qt3 because there weren't enough posts here to waste my time, then I stopped reading here because Qt3 had too many to keep up with. Lum's place is nice. "Terry Goodkind has exceeded the scope of wisdom of the Bible and the Koran combined. The magnitude of the message was so profound, I was completely taken off guard. The ability of Terry Goodkind to write what he wrote, marks him as likely one of our race's most profound thinkers alive today." - Random Shelfari user

Charles - why the job switch? I was under the impression you really liked your job at ubisoft and working on AC. She's probably had sex with like 4 different guys by now and has no idea who he is anymore, his face lost in a memory sea of dicks.
Oh, he's really switched jobs? For some reason I thought that that was a cover to stop people bitching at him about Ubisoft. |
:) Who runs this place?!
OH SNAP Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
Didn't he join a indie company? Morn! |
Capybara which I know nothing about except that they made Might & Magic Clash of Heroes. Seems like it would be a waste to have AAA guys making 2D games in small teams, and it is hard to imagine one could make more money that way but whatever. |

I'm really surprised that Morn continues to keep PC running. I'm also really glad that he does. ~14 years ago....sheesh. /nostalgia |
I believe they also made Sword and Sworcery or whatever it's called. |
G-Man, I know it might be a shocking concept, but money isn't the sole determination of how happy you are in life. |

#31 by Gunp01nt Charles - why the job switch? I was under the impression you really liked your job at ubisoft and working on AC. Charles did indeed enjoy working on AC. However, that was a while ago. Since then he's been in Toronto working on Splinter Cell 6 and some other game he can't talk about. Apparently the code was garbage, the team was full of morons and the leads were part of the problem, so he got out. The advantage of going indie is that you don't have to deal with the bureaucratic bullshit of a 400 person team and a giant company. I imagine Charles wants to feel like he actually has some impact on the game he's working on. "I hope you one day decide to smarten the fuck up so I can stand to look at your posts." - gaggle

Like I mentioned elsewhere, I talked to the guy who made music for Descent II, Freespace 1+2, Saints Row 2+3, Red Faction 1-3 and he went indie and basically he said - less money - more hours + more freedom + more happiness So really, the choice is very simple. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
I'm guessing he also wants to work on things that he would actually want to play. |
It's nice to want things. |
Maybe more obscurity too. So you are indie and you have full control etc. and you make DS games? I guess I just assumed that the kinds of games that Charles liked most were AAA games with tons 'o features and 3D 'splosions and stuff. At least a modern Ultima type thing with complicated game systems and AI. |
They make iOS games, you damn Luddites. Get with the times. BUYBUYBUY
iOS is the hottest gaming platform out there now! And clearly I am a luddite being left behind because I've only played Jetpack Joyride, Mahjong and some Solitaire game. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
I actually bought Sworecery, but when I needed headphone to play it I never got into it. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
It took me awhile to even figure out how to start the game. You have to be in landscape mode. It struck me as indie wankery and I never played it again. |
So therein lies the rub. Charles is going to make indie games for the pretentiousness factor, which has be so far excluded from the discussion. |
I've had Sworcerey for several months now but have yet to play it. I really should. blog | Twitter | The Psychology of Gaming

Charles has been pretty clear in the past that he thinks today's AAA games have gotten so complex and the teams have gotten so large that it's very difficult to have an impact. He wants to make awesome games and make a real contribution toward making them awesome. It's a lot easier to do that when you're 20% of the dev team rather than .25%. Well, Tom Dick squelched me for supporting Angies pigeon thread and calling him out on Brad's "temp ban" lol. But, nice post Shadarr. Zep-- w0rd up!

Tom's PM: Given your history on the forum, I don't think we really need to play with infractions and such, do we? I presume you'll be happier going elsewhere to post. -Tom Hsitory? What fucking history? w0rd up!

Do you eat at the Y? <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

Yes, I posted that..and that was somehow worse than a Bill D rant? I mean really.... I will concede that I made a mistake deleting Shadarr's last post. My intentions were good, and as it bothers a few people, I've since undeleted it. If it's any reassurance to you, I honestly can't think of a single other post I've deleted since this thing began. Seriously. Not a single one. If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know. -Tom You deleted my post about Brad...except...no one will see it! --Me w0rd up!
Also, fuck Lum. I believe my old UO guild, Fuckheads, had a beef with him *coz he was a LB or Koster(sp?) Kiss ass or something. Zep-- *I could be wrong but it rings a bell. w0rd up!

*Thanks for being reasonable and answering my PM's like you say you do, Tom! You have been banned for the following reason: No reason was specified. Date the ban will be lifted: Never Zep-- *fuck you, really. w0rd up!

What was your username on qt3, Zep? "I hope you one day decide to smarten the fuck up so I can stand to look at your posts." - gaggle

#56 by Wudi Yes, I posted that..and that was somehow worse than a Bill D rant? I mean really.... Ultimately irrelevant as these things get stuck in Tom's mind and twisted as the years go on. You had history, negative history, and that's a banning. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

#63 by Shadarr What was your username on qt3, Zep? His current one was Zepo1a. Last post in the 'Hatoful Boyfriend' thread. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

It has yet to fail: As soon as I forgive some past fucko in my heart, Tom immediately bans them TO DEATH. It is like fucking clockwork. ... would I like to taper that off? Of course I would. |
That's right, not 3, not 5... but for sexes. w,WDTEm? |

Hard to reinvent yourself when it's no different than the previous incarnation. Wonder if the greasemonkey script can block by IP as well as name? It's in the HTML after all. |

Figured he'd just be working on AC++. #36 by G-Man Seems like it would be a waste to have AAA guys making 2D games in small teams, and it is hard to imagine one could make more money that way but whatever. The top 1% of indie games seems to be doing pretty well. It's not hard to make money when your development costs are so low. Plus, from what I read being an 'AAA guy' means you get to do only one specific thing, just like being a programmer in a large business software firm, you're consigned to your small little island. Working on an indie team probably means he gets to broaden his horizon skillwise. She's probably had sex with like 4 different guys by now and has no idea who he is anymore, his face lost in a memory sea of dicks.

#69 by Gunp01nt Ah, I missed that part. Figured he'd just be working on AC++. There's two threads over on BrokenForum.com that might interest you. One is where he answers questions about games he's worked on, the other is him talking about AC Next. Apparently it's a lot of the same people who worked on AC:B, except most of the leads left the company entirely so in that regard it's a whole new vision. And apparently a whole new team made AC:R, which might explain why it hasn't been well received by fans of the series. Tom was nice enough to officially re-ban me. I am glad he was able to satisfy his desires in such a fashion. It is deliciously rare that an astonishingly petty person, takes it all the way to their logical conclusion. Now, as for you people: you don't need to ban me, in order to ensure that the ebb and flow of whiny sycophantic d-bags you guys like to surround yourself and swim in, will not be adversely affected. I never wanted to come back here, and I was quite content with all of you sliding off your own cocks in to Hell. Get a nice haircut and get back to work, wage slaves. FYM. Never give up, never surrender. |
this is why I never went any of those forums. In it's odd way, PC stays pure. Amen. When Morn comes to his senses and kills this place off, that'll be it for me. I check in here for the people, as I haven't been a "gamer" for quite some time now. 52 Weeks and Something's On Movie Blog

As far as I know the only users ever banned at PC have been spambots. |
I've decided it almost sucks having two gamers in the house. We have to decide who gets to play single player Xbox games first, and then the losing person has to stay out of the living room at all times to make sure they don't spoil the game for themselves. |
At that point I think you need to get a second Xbox and then flip of coin for the good TV/crappy TV. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
I was about to suggest that. There's also sharing the experience, the two of you in the couch can get mighty comfortable. |
Broken Forum - Error You have been banned for the following reason: "I've been avoiding this community since 2008." Good plan. You should continue to do so... So, now you know what happened to Tom Chick, tell you what. I was banned from the other community for talking about another community, in the place where that community was assigned to gather, so, obviously, I should acknowledge this here, in THIS community. Not THAT community. Millions of computers with billions of bits, and the height of your technological prowess is used for a securely-tunneled circle jerk. Good work, Gabe! UNF. Hello, lwf! I miss you too. NO ONE IS BANNED, NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN BANNED. WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN BANNING EASTHOLEASIA. It's gonna be a great year, that's for certitude. Peace. |
