Lucas never got it. He had help with every single good thing he's made. His craziness needs to be tempered by logic and sanity. "Fucking Radio Shack. It's a wonder they even know how to use a bathroom and don't just walk around all day with shit in their pants." - smds
"the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum |

But I still love me some Star Wars. Good for Lucas. Game Developers: Don't forget the zombie monkeys.
It'll be interesting to see how the public reacts to his next non-SW/Indy film project (Red Tails). |
IMDB says he's not the director of that one though so "the public" may not get riled up at all. |
I have no interest in Red Tails. Written by George Lucas? You might as well tell me it's two hours of Yoda taking a shit in 3D. |
He didn't write the screenplay or script though. And he's directing the reshoots going on right now, so while he's not the main director he is doing some director work. |
I think he works best as a collaborator. At least that's the stuff I've liked most of his. Now on to other bad movies...I watched Clash of the Titans. Bad movie for sure, but I really liked seeing all of some of the greek myth stuff come alive. If you discount the gods, the kraken (ugh...not even greek), and a few other things, there were some cool scenes. And Io was pretty hot. "Fucking Radio Shack. It's a wonder they even know how to use a bathroom and don't just walk around all day with shit in their pants." - smds

I've heard there was no Bo. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
I mean, Bubo. Geez, it's been some years. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
If you discount the gods, the kraken (ugh...not even greek) Hollywood: retconning history since 3521 BC. She's probably had sex with like 4 different guys by now and has no idea who he is anymore, his face lost in a memory sea of dicks.

not actually history. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" - "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."

#2756 by Trunks He didn't write the screenplay or script though. And he's directing the reshoots going on right now, so while he's not the main director he is doing some director work. He wrote the story and I have a hard time believing his hands weren't all over the script. Maybe he's not involved enough to ruin it, but his involvement at all is enough for me to wait for plenty of reviews from people I trust. |
Bwhaha came across this on... another forum. 3D is truly the wave of the future! Masterpieces in 3D |

#2762 by jjohnsen Maybe he's not involved enough to ruin it, but his involvement at all is enough for me to wait for plenty of reviews from people I trust. If you're lucky they'll have done a Joel-Schumacher-post-Batman&Robin and kicked him upstairs so he can't do too much harm. As the lengthy review mentioned at some point, the behind-the-scenes stuff for EP1 paints a picture of a group of people too scared to point out that the mega-hojillionaire wasn't wearing any pants. Back in the day, he was surrounded by people who could correct him and suggest better ways of doing things. Once he became a mega-mogul, not so much. |
It may not be actual history, but it was an actual religion and what they did with the source would be like making Passion of the Christ without the cross in it. Hollywood continues to make dumb their modus operandi for no real reason. But, me being a huge Greek myth guy ever since I can remember, it still had some goodness in it. Too bad most of the gods were dressed in Arthurian esque platemail... "Fucking Radio Shack. Wow, uh, I apologize in advance for inadvertently making an on-topic post: I quite enjoyed Zombieland. Fun movie. Ton of fun for the most parts with only a few scenes that kinda got a little too introspective. |
matt does know it a remake, and what hes bitching about was in the original right? Don't forget garnishes such as: Fish shaped solid waste.
I do know it's a remake, but that doesn't really excuse anything. I didn't see the original and I sure as hell won't be going back to do so. ;) Does None-1a know I'm standing right here? P.S. - Zombieland is indeed bad ass. Rule #2: Double tap. It's a life lesson. "Fucking Radio Shack. It's a wonder they even know how to use a bathroom and don't just walk around all day with shit in their pants." - smds
"the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum |

Wait, there are people in this universe who haven't seen the original Clash of the Titans? Despicable. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
Matt: You should see it. It holds up fairly well, stop-motion animated monsters aside. 'Zombieland' was great. I know it's kind of blasphemy but I thought it was better than 'Shaun of the Dead'. |
I too thought Zombieland was great. Not better than Shaun of of the dead though. That IS blasphamy. "Fucking Radio Shack. It's a wonder they even know how to use a bathroom and don't just walk around all day with shit in their pants." - smds
"the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum |

The original Clash was great because it was the first time I got to see boobs on film. 52 Weeks and Something's On Movie Blog

How the hell can you call yourself a "Greek myth guy" when you've never seen the Harryhausen original? "One part disembowels me while another slowly eats its way through the gas line. As I bleed out on the floor, it reminds me that I need to buy milk." - Jibble

Matt Perkins (#2772): I too thought Zombieland was great. Not better than Shaun of of the dead though. That IS blasphamy. Yeah, Zombieland was great the first time but Shaun is still great on repeat viewings. "I hope you one day decide to smarten the fuck up so I can stand to look at your posts." - gaggle

Treefrog, because I read books. You remember those archaic, things, right? You have to physically move the pages and they can't get on the web at all. "Fucking Radio Shack. It's a wonder they even know how to use a bathroom and don't just walk around all day with shit in their pants." - smds

Wow, hour and a half double post. Your tubez are clogged. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
No wonder people don't let books go there. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
Zing fail. "One part disembowels me while another slowly eats its way through the gas line. As I bleed out on the floor, it reminds me that I need to buy milk." - Jibble
Just finished Shaun of the Dead. Sorry for the blasphemy, but I think I liked Zombieland more. Or maybe I was just expecting more jokes and less zombies. But I have to say, Left 4 Dead could have been named Shaun of the Dead: The Game. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
It's not blasphemy, it just shows you're uncultured. "I hope you one day decide to smarten the fuck up so I can stand to look at your posts." - gaggle

I guess I'll just hang out with my pal deadlock and do an orangutan impression. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.
So my choices are to stand with Shadarr or going to the monkey impression group? I can't stand for these choices! I shan't be told who to cho....! Never mind, Shadarr has pretty good taste in movies. I went to see The Losers today and was the only person in the theater. Crazy. It wasn't great, but it wasn't that bad. |
Yeah, that's what I'd say about it too. The previews, like normal, weren't really the movie. Maybe if I hadn't seen the previews, I wouldn't have been kind of expecting a different movie. Don't know. The bad guy sucked and the bad guy's weapon sucked. Other than that, it was harmless fun that I'll probably forget about in a week or two. |
It was basically an action movie trying to use some comic book shtick to make it seem fresher. And it wasn't that interesting of an action movie. Not bad, not good. Mediocre. Where as Kick-Ass was a movie trying to portray what being a comic book hero would be like in real life. And I think they did a fantasic job keeping the comic book feel, the seriousness of the actual situation and making a real interesting movie with it. Liked it a lot. "Fucking Radio Shack. It's a wonder they even know how to use a bathroom and don't just walk around all day with shit in their pants." - smds

New Scott Pilgrim trailer's up. |
I've seen Iron Man 2 trailer by accident and it was so bad I almost threw up. Then I've watched Kick Ass intentionally and it was better than I've expected. I know nothing about superhero movies, but it didn't seem like it really sticked to *all* the usual cliches and stereotypes. |
Iron Man 2 wasn't bad. |
Kick Ass didn't wasn't definitely not your typical hero movie. It was very literally what could happen if you tried to be a superhero in real life. Loved it. "the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum
Or at least it tried to be. Iron Man 2 on the other hand...was basically like the first. Like the comic most of the time. Big action, not a lot of substance. Liked it fine for what it was. "the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum

#2788 by Matt Perkins the seriousness of the actual situation Surely you jest. |
**META-SPOILERS** Well, Kick Ass seemed like a mix of - 'real life attempts at superhero' comedy - teenage/romantic comedy - a mix of realistic drama with lighthearted drama (they didn't push it too far, but it did pretty well in creating tension and sympathy for me, surprisingly) - a mostly typical superhero action scenes (half of which was in trailers) **SPOILERS** It was a nice mix, but that scene where Big Daddy cleaned up the warehouse was very cool and superhero-ish, but at the same time he moved with determination and revenge in mind, which felt very personal and made him look like Bat Man (the costume, I believe, was also not too far from it). Again, when they've tortured him, it was neither cheesy "OMG REVENGE ME", "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" or "NOW IT'S PERSONAL"; it seemed relatively real without too much drama. I wonder if they have sequels/spin-offs in mind. </OVERTHINKING> |
I agree with everything you said, assemblerer. They went out of their way to try to make a more engaged to reality type of movie. They did have many superhero cliches, but they turned most of them at least a bit to try to make them fit in the world of our shared reality rather the world of comic books. I can't say it was perfect, but it was a damn fine movie. "the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum
