FJM and The Office writer guy has it in a nutshell. |
Are you surprised they feel that way? |
No, but its sad. Bissinger, who is just the type of bullshit sports writer that FJM feasts on, was insane with anger. He screamed and threw a tantrum on live television. It was pathetic. |
I'd love to see that, just for the humor. The old guard is definitely, and rightly should be, intimidated by blogs and the internet in general. I get the impression they see it as a bunch of amateurs trying to do what they do... Where as in reality it, at least a couple of the bloggers do it better than anything the professionals do. Oh, speaking of the sports, why does Phoenix keep rocking it in the regular season and keep losing in the play offs...are they just that team? "the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum

The Spurs have better and more talented players? |
Arizona sucks? |
McBain (#22): The Spurs have better and more talented players? Well that's pretty obvious...but you'd think at some point you'd figure out how to beat the team that CONSTANTLY knocks you out of the playoffs. And no, last minute trades don't count. It sucks too, because I really like watching the Suns play... "the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum

Arizona sucks? Yet we have a World Series championship. Hmmmmmm....... |
Seven years ago, that's hardly current. |
Fuck the sportswriters, as if there's any vetting process to become one than turning reams of crap. It's not like practicing medicine without a license. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

Considering 1991 is the last time Hawthorne finished first in Premiereships, sure it is. And ask a Cubs fan how current seven years ago is. |
There was talk on the radio that Sidney Crosby is diving. If I was a player I'd really hit him, take a double minor or whatever, but make sure he got his money worth on a real hit. Nobody in the NHL flops the way they do in the NBA, except maybe idiots like Avery and Ruttu. When people complain about someone like Crosby or Forsberg "diving" they mean that they don't fight hard enough to stay on their feet while being hooked, held and slashed. Witnesses in the house heard Jones say "why did you pee on me Pooh Bear?" A few moments later, the witness heard the son say "Mama you done stabbed me."
Hawthorn FC was founded 106 years ago. The Diamondbacks were created out of nothing ten years ago. There is hardly a resemblance. |
You were talking about current championships, not history. |
You're the one who brought up championships. And how many does Arizona have, in total? |
It has me, the champion of living there for three months. |
1. Then again, the state's not even 100 years old. Then again, you talk about the Diamondbacks being 10 years old? In that, they have 4 division titles, 1 NL title, a World Series, and currently have the best record in baseball. I'd take that. |

1. Then again, the state's not even 100 years old. We've only had pro sports since the mid-60s. Then again, you talk about the Diamondbacks being 10 years old? In that, they have 4 division titles, 1 NL title, a World Series, and currently have the best record in baseball. I'd take that. |
Sorry about the double post. |
For you San Francisco area people (or I guess Pixar fans), this is the latest thing I just did at work. |
Avery canned? Same with D'antoni. |
The demise of the Suns was inevitable once they fired Colangelo. Their window closed last year, which is too bad because I really wanted Nash to get a ring. Witnesses in the house heard Jones say "why did you pee on me Pooh Bear?" A few moments later, the witness heard the son say "Mama you done stabbed me."
It's the new owner being cheap. That's why D'Antoni might return- he won't want to pay the rest of the salary. |
An actual good sports story. Holtman and shortstop Liz Wallace lifted Tucholsky off the ground and supported her weight between them as they began a slow trip around the bases, stopping at each one so Tucholsky's left foot could secure her passage onward. Even with Tucholsky feeling the pain of what trainers subsequently came to believe was a torn ACL (she was scheduled for tests to confirm the injury on Monday), the surreal quality of perhaps the longest and most crowded home run trot in the game's history hit all three players. Leave it up to girls to play the right way. "the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum

#37 by jjohnsen For you San Francisco area people (or I guess Pixar fans), this is the latest thing I just did at work. You post this in the sports thread? Really? Cool though, it's a neat idea :) "Gaggle doesn't believe anyone should bother gaining skill in anything because anyone could gain skill in anything if they just put the time to it." - BjB
It's OK for Jeremy to post non-sports stuff in this thread because we know he's not trying to derail it. |
From the GTA4 and GTA4 only thread: One of the Fire Joe Morgan guys is a writer for The Office, and my suspicions that all the writers are Harvard buddies was confirmed by Bob Costas on HBO tonight. Yeah, they "came out" a while back. Important point, it's not just "a writer from The Office", it's the guy who plays Moss Schrute on The Office. That simply takes the bizarre to another level. The video evidence. It's sad, because while he may be a "bullshit sports writer" (though I don't ever remember FJM ever going after novelists), he was a good one. You can tell he's had that brewing forever, and him and Costas were well prepared for that ambushing. |
If it doesn't apply to any thread, why not derail the latest one? |
Sports is an exception. "Gaggle doesn't believe anyone should bother gaining skill in anything because anyone could gain skill in anything if they just put the time to it." - BjB
Derailing a thread with a picture with a train on rails in it is smart! "Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. Honestly, if me and Charles Bronson were in the same room I'd kill myself just to make sure he didn't hurt me."
Some video of this would really provide context for those of us unfamiliar with the players. |
BTW, is that the robot from Short Circuit? "Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. Honestly, if me and Charles Bronson were in the same room I'd kill myself just to make sure he didn't hurt me."
#49 by FoRmaT BTW, is that the robot from Short Circuit? ....? Yes. Yes it is. "Gaggle doesn't believe anyone should bother gaining skill in anything because anyone could gain skill in anything if they just put the time to it." - BjB
Nevermind; just saw eggbert's link. |
I don't remember the boxy thing in the mid-section... "Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. Honestly, if me and Charles Bronson were in the same room I'd kill myself just to make sure he didn't hurt me."
#52 by FoRmaT I don't remember the boxy thing in the mid-section... Please be kidding. "Gaggle doesn't believe anyone should bother gaining skill in anything because anyone could gain skill in anything if they just put the time to it." - BjB
Here he is. Doesn't have it. If it was some disguise in a scene of the movie, sorry, I've forgotten about it. It has been about 500 years sice I last saw it! "Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. Honestly, if me and Charles Bronson were in the same room I'd kill myself just to make sure he didn't hurt me."
FJM has used this occasion to point out problems with Bissinger's writing. I read his book "3 Nights in August" and its pretty hefty with garbage to make a Moneyballer turn over in their grave. |
#49 by FoRmaT BTW, is that the robot from Short Circuit? Did Pixar make Short Circuit, and would they be advertising it on trains right now? |
Is this a trick question? "Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. Honestly, if me and Charles Bronson were in the same room I'd kill myself just to make sure he didn't hurt me."
If he wasn't kidding I at least hope he'll one day reveal he's a Joker alt, at least it'll make some sense then. "Gaggle doesn't believe anyone should bother gaining skill in anything because anyone could gain skill in anything if they just put the time to it." - BjB
Sorry I don't remember all the details of a 20 year old movie, you silly viking! "Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. Honestly, if me and Charles Bronson were in the same room I'd kill myself just to make sure he didn't hurt me."

Things just get better and better for Roger Clemens! |
It's Shaq's fault. |
I blame Steve Kerr. |
Whoa, okay...your old bud from high school tracks you down after fifteen or so years and asks for money because his sister needs it for the FLDS situation. What would you do? |
FLDS? Tell that Mormon to fuck off. |
"...at least $700..." |
So, the money would propogate the innocence of 60 year-olds fucking 13 year olds in the name of religious conviction. Sheesh...even criminals and Satanists admit such a thing is wrong, but they did it anyway. How far gone are you when you commit child rape and say "God loves it?" |
