GTA:IV-ever
April 28th 2008, 21:28 CEST by CheesyPoof Talk, play, bitch, whatever. The game is getting A+'s and 10/10 all over the place, including the tight wads at EuroGamer. We must also strike while the iron is hot to organize any PC play sessions, 360 only, sorry Bob. And doubly sorry to PC only gamers (sorry Dum). |

Would it be better if he played and watched everything he pirated? |

That's civil disobedience. I'm not a criminal, I'm a political activist. And given the last political prisoner I freed was the Witcher, I'm down to something like 20-25% activism. Speaking of GTA4 multiplayer though, "cops and crooks" really annoys me, it's "cops 'n' robbers". MP3 Of The Week: Tom Waits - Jockey Full Of Bourbon.mp3 (?)

Stupid Scots. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

Jen tried playing GTA IV tonight. It locked up/crashed twice in the 2 hours she played, both times forcing her to restart a mission she was just about to finish. She declared "I'm done with this". I've been lucky in that I've played much more, and only had it lock up on me like that once. |
|
I've had quite a few lock ups, too. Tends to crash on the loading screen when I restart a mission. Multiplayer has this funny knack of lagging me out, crashing my router and then freezing the 360. I'm not sure where the problem lies here, because my router does tend to reboot itself periodically during periods of heavy load just to fuck me off. But when it happens during Halo, it does actually just reboot whereas here it crashes and you have to unplug it (BT failed do design an on/off button, the shitlickers). - words and stuff -

Wait for the patch? Yay for consoles! "Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. Honestly, if me and Charles Bronson were in the same room I'd kill myself just to make sure he didn't hurt me."

Took my second try yesterday to beat the hospital mission. This time I took a Feltzer to the job for my getaway car. First time I parked too far away and was shotgunned (I think) opening the door. The second time I parked it right against the entrance to the old hospital so I wouldn't have to sprint to it, but when I came outside the game moved it all the way over to the parking lot (What's that about best laid plans?). Good thing that this time I hung back and waited for the cops to come to me and took them all out so there wasn't anyone in the parking lot. I was able to escape pretty easy in the Feltzer. The Bobcat was a joke. When do I get a Algonquin safe house? I have having to go to Bohan. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

Ok, lets talk about a different subject for a second... Anyone a Gametap subscriber? Do the games Just Work⢠or is it the same bullshit you deal with when you install older games? An example would be X-Com... I want to play that again, but since I have the gold version that was released for windows, I'm having a hard time slowing it down. Is that something the gametap software takes care of? Can I play that and Disciples II with no problem? When do I get a Algonquin safe house? I have having to go to Bohan. Well, you can *SPOILAR* choose to kill Playboy and take his apartment *END SPOILAR* eventually. I think I ended up getting two safehouses at the same time, so the other one may be triggered off the same mission. Witnesses in the house heard Jones say "why did you pee on me Pooh Bear?" A few moments later, the witness heard the son say "Mama you done stabbed me."

Matt the emulated games all just work however the windows games are simply unchanged standard installs running from a virtual drive. So every problem from the retail relese related to compatability and speed are still there. |

Or better, find the PSX version. I had that, it's really good, you can play it from the couch, and it works woth the PSX mouse. Hell, I might buy a mouse and get the game again, too! I blame UFO-ENEMY UNKNOWN, as it is to be called properly, for many failed exams in my school career. This and Wing Commander. "Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. Honestly, if me and Charles Bronson were in the same room I'd kill myself just to make sure he didn't hurt me."

None-1a (#960): Matt the emulated games all just work however the windows games are simply unchanged standard installs running from a virtual drive. So every problem from the retail relese related to compatability and speed are still there. That's annoying... I guess I'll have to go back to trying to track down a way to slow down x-com. I really missed playing it and now the combat scrolls WAY too fast. "the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum

The new UFO game was actually pretty good. The one that took place on Mars and had some rather reasonable graphics in a somewhat toonish style. Good stuff. "Using [sandbox elements] to play a melody, following a script, diction, or formula if you would, takes this cacophonous system and gives it harmony, and takes random notes and turns them into music." - bago

Also, Steam has UFO: Terror From The Deep or whatever available. Which I promptly bought. Good stuff, although I can't actually play it nowadays.. baby needs an interface overhaul something fierce. If they could just fix inventory management/reordering, that would be enough for me. Also TFTD runs too fast on the map screen, but it's still pretty manageable at the lowest setting. It's not a story that was being told to them in cut-scenes from the game designers' point of view." - Will Wright

Boom Blox is becoming less fun. The early levels where you try to topple a structure using as few throws as possible are not representative of most of the game. Many levels have you working against a time limit or trying to keep certain parts or characters from taking damage or being forced to remove dozens of blocks without making a mistake or you start over. It gets annoying and frustrating pretty fast. "If everybody has a very different story and a very different experience, then it's very personal and they were driving the story by playing the game. Sheesh, people! Playing with consoles has gotten to you. UFO works fine in DOSbox. OR just download the Windows executables. So, Age of Conan... Anyone played it? Liked, disliked? I'm pretty curious about it. I'm also pretty sure I shouldn't be joining up at launch. "the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum

I played in the open beta, only made it to level 14. It's very pretty, but runs poorly even on my quad-core system with a 8800GT. The combat system is more active for melee fighters than in WoW, but also more annoying. For casters the combat is just like WoW. Game Developers: Don't forget the zombie monkeys.

AoC is out already? Damnit. |

Ugh. But that's just me. "Using [sandbox elements] to play a melody, following a script, diction, or formula if you would, takes this cacophonous system and gives it harmony, and takes random notes and turns them into music." - bago

I think it actually releases on 5/20. Game Developers: Don't forget the zombie monkeys.

I have zero interest. I always wished they'd made more Conan movies, but a Conan videogame is just YA fantasy RPG. Witnesses in the house heard Jones say "why did you pee on me Pooh Bear?" A few moments later, the witness heard the son say "Mama you done stabbed me."
|
|
The pvp stuff sounded pretty interesting, assuming they actually kept what they said they were doing. If the game is actually just a lame WoW clone, then fuck it. |
|
I have zero interest. I always wished they'd made more Conan movies, but a Conan videogame is just YA fantasy RPG. I felt the same way until someone explained to me some of the gameplay things they're doing and it actually sounds like they're trying to do some interesting things with it. I may overlook the yet-another-fantasy-RPG thing and give it a try. Bellydance!

I never find out if these things are interesting or not until the betas are over. I'd try it...but...funcom. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" - "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."

LPMiller (#979): I'd try it...but...funcom. I think the lesson there is don't try in the first month or so. "the concept that a happy worker is a productive worker is hardly an entry from Matt's Big Book Of Things The Fairies Said." - Dum

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they learned from the launch of AO. I'm not saying buy at first month mark either. Wait and see will probably pay of something fierce... McBain, I can't remember where you posted it but that Michael Allen msnbc video was great. Thanks. I'm playing Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. It's been interesting, but now I'm stuck at the part where you go to sleep in that filthy hotel and "they" are coming to kill you. The whole "it's chasing you and if you turn around it'll be right there in front of you looking in your eyes" scares me more than all the monsters in Resident Evil combined. I'm looking at a walkthrough for the game and it looks like the escape section ahead of me is quite long. I guess I could just run through it in godmode, but I never do that. So now I'll probably have to box the game, because it scares me too much :( "Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. Honestly, if me and Charles Bronson were in the same room I'd kill myself just to make sure he didn't hurt me."
|
|
The best walkthrough for that stage is reading The Shadow over Innsmouth, or watching the movie Dagon. |
|
Yeah, I've read that that part matches Shadow over Innsmouth very closely, but that doesn't make me less nervous and girly while playing :/ "Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. Honestly, if me and Charles Bronson were in the same room I'd kill myself just to make sure he didn't hurt me."

Due to all this GTa talk, I went back and reinstalled GTA: San Andreas and after some screwing around with an old save game, started a replay. It holds up astonishly well, looks great with everything cranked, Therapy?, Wildheads and coheed & cambria blaring on a custom soundtrack, breaking missions by doing things ass backw2ards, cases where you just gotta stay on til the end where you can then whack the target. With the pc version you can headshot the driver through the windscreen, makes jacking the car much easier, as the corpse ever so nicely opens the door for you as it slumps to the tarmac. |
|
I've been playing PC GTA 3 a few days ago, and the mission where you have to provide sniper cover for 8-Ball on the deck of that huge ship was easy as stomping a kitten, while I remember it took me like ten tries on the PS2 back when I played it on that, because aiming was so difficult and you couldn't lock on targets. "Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. Honestly, if me and Charles Bronson were in the same room I'd kill myself just to make sure he didn't hurt me."

God mode in a Cthluhu game strikes me as faintly heretical. |
|
Perhaps one enables it through chanting and blood sacrifice rather than a console command. |
|
That 8 Ball mission was easy on the PS2 because there was a pill nearby that made everything super slow. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

GTA mission spoilers, maybe. So I had this mission to to kill a guy and steal his files, but in order to get there I had to go in under the guise of an interview. I get to the office building and as I am escorted to the office for the interview I notices there's a lot of security. Sure enough I kill the guy, the secretary screams and all the security come running. I figured that I would have to go through the cover mechanic and inch my way out of the office building. But then I remember that I didn't go up any stairs and that this guy had a corner office and wondered if I could shoot out a window and escape that way. It worked. I shot the window, jumped down a little bit, jacked a taxi and got rid of my wanted level. Easy peasy. Even though the front end of the mission was heavily scripted, the back end of it was good. Too bad the missions aren't more like that. I'm cynical enough to thing that if R* considered this solution they would have put bars over the windows, or make them bulletproof, or something to force the player out the front door. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

I stabbed that guy and walked out the front door and nobody was the wiser. OH MY GOD THIS GAME IS THE MOST OPEN ENDED OF ALL TIE---------------gloughtkremete |
