GTA:IV-ever

Talk, play, bitch, whatever.

The game is getting A+'s and 10/10 all over the place, including the tight wads at EuroGamer.

We must also strike while the iron is hot to organize any PC play sessions, 360 only, sorry Bob. And doubly sorry to PC only gamers (sorry Dum).

I was disappointed that you can't play Teen Wolf in GTA4, but I was kinda surprised about all the car names.

Yeah, that really sucks. I really want to ride around and see what was going on in the city, but nooooooo...

Woo! The second island is now open. I still have odds and end to do in Broker/Bohan though. I didn't have any issues with the mission that unlocks it. Funny enough it was the first mission I did. If I knew I was that close to Algonquin I would have done it last night.

That whole thing was weird.  The mission itself had no relation to the second island, nor was there any indication that you had unlocked it prior to showing up at his apartment.  Note to Americans: the way to lower the terror level and undo the police state is to kill a lot of cops.

I failed the first time and quit playing for a day.  In fact, that was pretty much the peak of my frustration with the game.  The next day I finished it and all of a sudden the game was 10x better.

I've been having a lot of fun with grenades. Throwing them at people, dropping them out of car windows... uh, I guess that's about it. But they rock.

I need to find a grenade pickup site.  I found some in an alley once right before I died but I haven't been able to find my way back.

What I need to find is an armor pickup and a SMG pickup. Preferably in Algonquin, but Broker, Bohan or Dukes works too.

For armor go to the top right of Algonquin where the bridge goes over the waterfront road.  Get out under the bridge, jump the barrier and go down the hill.  It's on a little platform above the footpath.

My completed save has a full complement of weapons with max ammo. So I load it up, fire off my 5 rockets, throw my 30 grenades, run over some people, then turn the system off without saving.

I'm thinking it's generally not worth the time to pick up free armor. Some of them are convenient but it's only $300 to pick up from Jacob.

Well it depends what you're doing.  I've been mostly doing vigilante missions, so it's just as easy to steal a cop car and head north while I lose the star, then pick up the armour prior to accessing the computer.  But if you're doing missions somewhere else it can be more convenient to just buy it.  I searched for about five minutes for another armour drop and didn't find it, so obviously that was a waste of time.  But obviously paying for armour is less of a drain on your finances than not reloading after you die.

Well, it's also a time thing. The hidden armour can sometimes take a few seconds to get to. I could be spending that time robbing hookers.

Going to Jacob takes time too, though.  And I prefer driving really fast over fiddling with my cellphone.

The stats on my completed save say there are 216 cutscenes in the game and the guy spent over an hour on the cellphone.

Well, that part of the equation cancels out.  You can either fuck around calling Jacob or you can speed through traffic to an armor drop.  I'd rather do the latter.

I found one or two on the first island. The one I remember was at the bottom of a stairwell in an alley though. Not very car-friendly.

This is probably years and years out of date, but I just watched the first episode of Wonderfalls and rather liked it.

On that note, and veering surprisingly on topic, I'll go play GTAIV.

Between GTAIV, WoW and Wonderfalls I've chosen to watch In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Sige Tale. I'm unsure why exactly I went this route.

I'd like to watch through all of Miami Vice again. I so loved this show! My dad let me watch it, even though it was a bit bloody. Even back then, as a kid, I could appreciate the greatness of its settings, driving scenes with silent characters and Phil Collins playing in the background... Then of course the clothes, that strange "Noogie" or "Nukeman" or however he was called (wasn't the character killed?), Stan and his van... I remember being shit scared of the scar-faced, grumbling Edward J. Olmos who was always stone cold and deadly calm but somehow always seemed dangerous and menacing to me, the boat races...

This show truly had it all. It's unrepeatable.

All you need to do it watch a few show of Miami Vice to know it should stay in the 80's. And why the fuck was it vice? It should have been called Miami Narc.

I tried that hospital mission in GTA. It was annoying but I was able to get out of the hospital on my first try only to find a Bobcat outside waiting for me. Needless to say evading a 3 star chase in a Bobcat was very frustrating. I had a sliver of health left and made my boneheaded move of the day. Given how the game likes to spawn cop cars in front of you, when I got outside of the search radius (for the second time) I thought it would be a great idea to ditch my car and get into a different one. So, instead of stopping the car I push the button to bail. Before the animation completes I know what a dumb ass move that was as I watch Nico tumble out of the car and see the life knocked out of him causing a fission mailed. Sigh.

I also learned that during a delivery mission for Little Jacob that cars no longer double as armor. I was hemmed in by some gang members and didn't have any armor so I got in a car only to find myself getting shot through the windshield and dying.
