GTA:IV-ever
April 28th 2008, 21:28 CEST by CheesyPoof

Talk, play, bitch, whatever.

The game is getting A+'s and 10/10 all over the place, including the tight wads at EuroGamer.

We must also strike while the iron is hot to organize any PC play sessions, 360 only, sorry Bob. And doubly sorry to PC only gamers (sorry Dum).

eh, it looks pretty good, I'm sure I'll get it....someday. but I've never been a huge fan of the GTA games. Crackdown was more my speed.

I'm just glad I'll finally have another this-gen sandbox game. Ever since I sold my 360 I've had to do without. I miss physics. :(

If only you could've kept your 360 and continued to play great games with crappers.  Oh well, no use crying over things that can't be changed.

I managed to bribe someone to get my 360 copy early last thursday (Beer and a Parma!).  I've been playing it off and on since then.  I skipped vice city and San Andreas, although I watched housemates play through most of them.  Played a heap of GTA3.

So far I'm really enjoying the game.  What I have seen of the city (still on the first island) seems really solid.  There's rubbish bins and such on the side of the road, an appropriate amount of people and cars and I haven't noticed much repetition in the buildings or textures on the buildings.  The city looks very detailed and "dense" so far, more so when walking rather than zipping by in a car.

The driving feels exactly as I remember GTA3 feeling; kind of floaty at the start, then you get used to it and fly around.

I'm playing the censored AU version.  Not sure what they have taken out really, there's a huge amount of swearing and a whole heap of violence.

I really dig the way you can turn off the story progression at any time and just run around exploring.

What do you mean "turn off the story progression"?

One of the main ways story gets pushed at you is through your mobile phone.  You can put your mobile into "sleep" mode, effectively halting the story progress.

That. Is. Awesome. My favorite part of GTA has always been finding the packages and stuff without a guide.

My wife likes the missions so, save a few where they were too hard (I'm looking at you, Zero), I get to just do what I like.

Are people waiting for the PC version because we're assuming eventually there will be one, or has it been announced?

Count me out. GTA:SA sucked balls, and I haven't really seen anything all that great about gta4.

You need to watch the Gametrailers review then.  Me buying it the picosecond it arrives on the PC is pretty much a given, but seeing it in action there has really got me jonesing for it.

Droolworthy stuff.

Meh.

I will buy GTA 4 this week too. But I have never, ever beaten a GTA game and I've bought them all. The missions become so freaking hard I end up just driving around kicking up dirt.

It'll be, like, a year. The game won't be impressive-looking anymore. You will feel oddly unsatisfied. You will regret your current way of life.

There, played it. From what I've seen so far it's quite literally GTAIV: The sequel to GTAIII. That's not meant as a criticism as such.

Just picked up my copy at Target. As predicted, they had a big pile of them, supplemented with drawers full of them. Pre-ordering is retarded anymore.

Earlier I saw some photos of tons of people waiting in line for the midnight launch. I guess I just don't get it*. Lay down, close eyes, wake up, drive to store, grab game instantly, leave. Christmas morning is fun and all, but I'm not five anymore.

*Yes, I stood in line for the Wii, but I still have yet to see one of those physically sitting on a store shelf.

That video review convinced me. I'll buy it today.

I'm now of the opinion all reviews should be in video form only.

I'm still laughing about an earlier video I was linked to as a "preview". The player walked clumsily around on a bridge, got into a car, drove a few feet, jumped out, slowly walked back to the car, then drove it off the edge of the bridge into the water.

Can't wait to play it, honestly. Let me know if you guys wind up setting aside some scheduled matches online.

I walked into K-Mart on Sunday morning and bought a Wii. It wasn't physically on a shelf, but it was the first time I've seen one physically in a store for sale. And I didn't have to wait in line for it, outside of having to wait for a customer to finish their transaction.

Woo! I have my copy! Boo! I am in the office!

Pre-ordering is pointless, at least in a big city like Boston with so many places to get games.

Not when you trade in your entire PS2 collection and get an extra 20% on the trade in value for pre-ordering GTA IV, which nets you GTA IV, Patapon and still have $3.42 left over.

Christmas morning is fun and all, but I'm not five anymore.

Oh, you will be. You will be. And we're all going to hear about it.

It's pretty awesome that all Hugin's talk of, "I'll get GTA when it's in a setting I like, like a Sci-Fi one in the ME universe" that the video review broke him down and he got it. Woo!
