Both is not an acceptable answer to the question asked nor is the timeline discussion. Sorry, LOSE.

Both sounds like a perfectly reasonable answer to me.

I have 84 events until I get the Burnout Elite license. By the time I do that hopefully GTA IV will be out.

I get sick of everything.  I almost never play two similar games in a row.  With Rock Band it's taking longer because of the drums and because I'm playing Overlord at the same time.

Wow, I think I sprained something.  Maybe starting with Lamb of God 'Now youve got something to die for' was a bad choice.

Its very zen and zonelike, dodging blocks and building color patterns, me likey.

So, I'm considering getting a new laptop and my first choice is to get a Mac. It would be a plain old Macbook, nothing fancy, but requirements are that it must run Win XP. I read that boot camp comes out of the box, so that's OK, but I'd hate to be forced to running it in XP all the time. So I read about Parallels and wonder if anyone has any experience with that? Would a Macbook (I'd get 2GB ram and 160GB HD) be OK with running this?

Plus, I'd want to use the copy of XP from the old laptop on the Mac and re purpose the laptop for something else. Can I sue that copy of XP? It's not like I could buy a new copy of XP anyway.

My Macbook Pro runs XP fine in Parallels.  I play Peggle on it all the time.  I'm guessing you wouldn't have any problems, though the graphics card in the Macbook isn't great, so I'm not sure about gaming.

I have a white Macbook CheesyPoof, and it runs XP in Parallels quite a bit.  I mainly use it for IE testing of webpages/apps, I've never done any gaming or anything with it.  It runs admirably.

When I got my white Macbook, you couldn't configure them to have 3 gig of ram on the apple website, only 2.  You can however put 3 in, and RAM is dirt cheap (unless you buy it from the apple website).  In my opinion, it's worth doing if you are going to be running XP in a VM quite a bit.

More information about 3gig RAM in macbooks.

I've read here and there rumours of a hardware update for the MBP. Stuff like, 'within the month' and whatnot. Anyone know anything more substantial? Has this already happend or is it just a bunch of bullcrap?

Well, I wouldn't use it for gaming, so that's fine. Looking at this laptop now, it's only a 40 GB HD so I don't think that I'd even need to 160 for XP. It'll be use for some light work, the wifes homework, a docking station for our palms, iPod, and then internet & emailing.

Currently I have the laptop set up to a printer shared by my desktop, so am I correct in assuming that, outside of the virtual XP, this setup wouldn't work on a Mac?

I think you are probably right.  For reference; I have the 120GB HD in mine, and currently have 17GB free.  I have a heap of source code, jar files and other stuff that takes up a fair bit of room.  I think I allocated 10GB to the XP vm hard drive.

Fugazi, can you make that laptop boot from an external drive, so you can run Windows on it, or does it only boot from its ROM?

Cheesy-

I don't think you can use an OEM version of XP on the laptop, but I've only done Boot Camp installs with the full (non-OEM) version so I can't verify that.

I've done oem installs of xp under boot camp, no problem.  It just needs to be sp2 to work.

I've also used Parallels and VM Ware Fusion.  I've found that Fusion works a little better.

According to the Mac Buyer's Guide it's been quite a bit longer then usual between updates of the MBP, and have it classified as "Don't Buy - Updates Soon". That may be where the rumors are based on.
