Hell Hath Frozen Over... Could it be true? A Duke Nukem Forever teaser from 3DRealms?
December 19th 2007, 16:15 CET by OmegaFoRCe Long long ago, in a Crap far, far away, there were Crappers making fun of 3DRealms and their seemingly unending development cycle of Duke Nukem Forever. Could the legends of a real video game actually be true? And behold - the word of legend: http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?t=29639 Last Saturday we had our annual company Christmas party. It was a lot of fun as usual but it featured one special surprise. It turns out that several people had been secretly working late nights and into the wee hours of the morning preparing a special video for those at the party. They created a short teaser for Duke Nukem Forever.
After seeing the teaser we thought it was something we should share with all of you and while it's just a teaser, rest assured more is coming. Tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th, around noon CST, we will release the first teaser trailer from Duke Nukem Forever. To tide you over until then, here is a screen shot taken from the teaser. Thank you for being fans of the game and for your continued patience. I'd like to thank the people on the team that worked so hard to create this teaser and the friends of 3DR that helped create it (Jeremy Soule and Julian Soule, Frank Bry, Jason Evigan and of course, Jon St. John). |

Isn't this the wrong thread for a music snob discussion? |
I never liked The Smiths much, but I have to agree that any cover of How Soon Is Now is worse than the original. Yot, U2's Running To Stand Still has been my favorite song they've ever done since the first time I heard it. M0nty, all your music sucks. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
Check your FSI! |
I'll tell my 17 year old self you guys don't approve of those songs. |
Besides, it's not the songs so much as the circumstances in which I heard them/remember them that makes them so endearing to me. Each one has a story, I'm sure. |
and 'Blue Monday' by the Cure. Oops. Of course I meant New Order. |
Apparently the editor of that site for which I was going to write a gaming column followed a linkback here and got a little miffed that I said her site sucked. So I've posted it on Digital Luddite instead. Witnesses in the house heard Jones say "why did you pee on me Pooh Bear?" A few moments later, the witness heard the son say "Mama you done stabbed me."

Funny. |
About as funny as zp, in fact, maybe a little better in some ways. I can't believe we only made a hundred bucks. |

could be worse, you could be a Def Leppard fan... (I was, for a few years, sigh) |
I never even knew about The Smiths. I guess I wasn't in their target audience's age group when they were in. Between the age of 9 and 10 I did spend every afternoon listening to my AC/DC "Back in Black" and "Who made Who" albums. The slow and talking parts of Iron Maiden's "Seventh son of a seventh son" were on my cassette player a lot, too (cassettes!!!) Crazy how times change. From ghetto blasters only a body builder could carry to mobile phones who play hours and hours worth of music and Ipods that play video. Pretty amazing, and I'm sorry children can't really appreciate how cool this stuff is because they've never lived without it. And they complain about bad graphics of PS2 games when I was sometimes stunned by the amazing 8 colour imagery of my MSX computer... /first and last blog entry for today, kthnks "I just wanted Monster. I paid for Monster, not Speech." - Matthew Gallant

The Smiths weren't a commercial product, put together by record execs. They didn't have a 'target audience'. They were just an indie band who happened to make some sublime guitar pop. |

#1506 by Shadarr Apparently the editor of that site for which I was going to write a gaming column followed a linkback here and got a little miffed that I said her site sucked. So I've posted it on Digital Luddite instead. First you say FoF sucks, then you start outlining ways in which GH3 and RB are worse than FoF. To wit: - In FoF, you can choose to play any song without any unlocking or failing - By far the most downloadable content (heh) - No boss battles "I've always viewed masturbation as a pretty positive thing."

#1510 by Ds_ could be worse, you could be a Def Leppard fan... It is worse, he's admited to liking Vagiant. Frankly, Def Leppard would be a step up from that. |
Thing is, the early Def Leppard stuff, pre Hysteria, was actually pretty decent rock, especially 'On through the night', pretty much pre Robert 'married to Shania Twain' "Mutt" Lange. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7038859702187974233&q=def+leppard+wasted&total=34&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=2 not horribad for 25+ years ago. shame they turned all poodle. |

#1515 by Ds_ not horribad for 25+ years ago. Then again, that can be said of almost anything. "[WoW] have set up a system that allows me to rent my friends on a monthly basis.."

Who Made Who is a great Greatest Hits album. Best song: 'Ride On' |
It's actually the soundtrack to the semi-good Stephen King movie "Trucks". "I just wanted Monster. I paid for Monster, not Speech." - Matthew Gallant

Oh that's the name of the book. The movie is called "Maximum Overdrive". "I just wanted Monster. I paid for Monster, not Speech." - Matthew Gallant

Hammer-ons are restricted to specific notes and in some songs it appears they are used specifically to screw the player up. They've always been restricted to specific notes. In GH3 they have less restriction by virtue of being manually programmed in, where in GH2 they were automatically placed based on how far away the notes were. Also, I've didn't know we could do "would'nt've." That's practically southern, jamming three words like that. |
What's worse than being a Def Leppard fan? Not know how to post links. Know what's worse than that? (insert punchline here) See, now you guys are just picking on Format because you can. There's teaching someone something and then there's being assholes...see that behind you? That's the line. Shaddup. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

PHP is crap. I looked at jibble's code for UAC, he's not a pro. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
The Smiths? Morressey? Might know them, probably don't. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
And getting called out by gaggle for posting too much, ouch. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

Yeah, I wouldn't call myself a professional PHP programmer. It's just something I sort of know how to do. Lady, people aren't chocolates. But you know what they are, mostly? Bastards. Bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling.

They've always been restricted to specific notes. In GH3 they have less restriction by virtue of being manually programmed in, where in GH2 they were automatically placed based on how far away the notes were. Well, that's the thing. In GH2 if notes are close together you can HOPO them. In GH3 you can have 5 evenly spaced notes and only four of them are HOPOable. It's annoying. The song that really pissed me off is My Name is Jonas. First of all, none of those notes should be HOPOs because you can here the pick, but secondly they all are except for the 497th note. There is no reason to do that other than a gotcha. Yeah, you got me, now come over here for your prize. It's a groinpunch. Also, I've didn't know we could do "would'nt've." That's practically southern, jamming three words like that. I don't think whorier is a word either, but so what? Witnesses in the house heard Jones say "why did you pee on me Pooh Bear?" A few moments later, the witness heard the son say "Mama you done stabbed me."

First you say FoF sucks, then you start outlining ways in which GH3 and RB are worse than FoF. To wit: - In FoF, you can choose to play any song without any unlocking or failing - By far the most downloadable content (heh) - No boss battles Heh indeed. FoF may in fact be better than GH3, but no way is it better than Rock Band or GH1&2. And I actually like the campaign mode, the only time I've played quickplay was when I was killing time and my brother's house. It's only annoying when there's a song I absolutely hate (hello Freya) that I have to beat again to advance on a harder difficulty. But otherwise, the dangling carrot of unlocking works in my opinion. Witnesses in the house heard Jones say "why did you pee on me Pooh Bear?" A few moments later, the witness heard the son say "Mama you done stabbed me."

The Smiths? Morressey? Might know them, probably don't. Of course you don't. They didn't see a million faces and rock them all. |

+1 It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.

The sequel to Fight Night Round 3 looks like all kinds of awesome. |
Hey you're right. I saw the link to the Facebreaker trailer earlier but skipped it, thinking it sounded boring. But that's not looking nearly as terribly as I first assumed. "[WoW] have set up a system that allows me to rent my friends on a monthly basis.."
I posted a link that works, just because Mr0n (thanks Gabe!) hasnt figured out the limiting page width thing, thats hardly my fault. Besides, if I 'hid' the link, youd just bitch and suggest I was posting a RickRoll. (Look ma, I capitalised!) |
Always link. Always make it simple. "[WoW] have set up a system that allows me to rent my friends on a monthly basis.."
So is every game going to be TF2 cartoony style now? Game Developers: Don't forget the zombie monkeys.
Hopefully. "[WoW] have set up a system that allows me to rent my friends on a monthly basis.."

Yot, have you heard that newish band Vampire Weekend? I heard the on Letterman, and they sound exactly like and updated English Beat (at least that song did). |
No, but I'll check them out on iTunes. I'm always looking for new stuff. |
They sound pretty good. Thanks for the heads up. |
best ad ever. |
Ugh. Terrible. "I don't like story in games." - Soren Johnson
I gotta say, I don't think they sound much like the Beat at all. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" - "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."
That's a decent ad, but best EVAR? Not even close. Invention is the Green Goblin of Necessary Lemonade.
--Flowers |
If anything, I get a Talk Talk vibe from Vampire Weekend. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" - "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."
Ergo: Maybe not, but it has a (very lifelike) gorilla miming the drums to "In the Air Tonight". It's gotta be up there. |
Everybod knows this is the best ad evar. "I just wanted Monster. I paid for Monster, not Speech." - Matthew Gallant
I dunno. I can see Vampire Weekend being English Beat-y. It was okay. Terrible name, though. best ad ever. Not even close. That ad requires that the viewer believes that they are looking at a real gorilla which I sure as heck didn't. Everybod knows this is the best ad evar. Please say that you were kidding/trolling. That was ass. "when a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully." Samuel Johnson
#1545 by FoRmaT Everybod knows this is the best ad evar. Wrong. |
This was, indeed, funny sir! "I just wanted Monster. I paid for Monster, not Speech." - Matthew Gallant
I've always been partial to the big beer ad from a few years back. "[WoW] have set up a system that allows me to rent my friends on a monthly basis.."
Hrm, no how did that break, I know I did url /url I muust have /urk'd it I blame Romney |
