Hell Hath Frozen Over... Could it be true? A Duke Nukem Forever teaser from 3DRealms?
December 19th 2007, 16:15 CET by OmegaFoRCe Long long ago, in a Crap far, far away, there were Crappers making fun of 3DRealms and their seemingly unending development cycle of Duke Nukem Forever. Could the legends of a real video game actually be true? And behold - the word of legend: http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?t=29639 Last Saturday we had our annual company Christmas party. It was a lot of fun as usual but it featured one special surprise. It turns out that several people had been secretly working late nights and into the wee hours of the morning preparing a special video for those at the party. They created a short teaser for Duke Nukem Forever.
After seeing the teaser we thought it was something we should share with all of you and while it's just a teaser, rest assured more is coming. Tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th, around noon CST, we will release the first teaser trailer from Duke Nukem Forever. To tide you over until then, here is a screen shot taken from the teaser. Thank you for being fans of the game and for your continued patience. I'd like to thank the people on the team that worked so hard to create this teaser and the friends of 3DR that helped create it (Jeremy Soule and Julian Soule, Frank Bry, Jason Evigan and of course, Jon St. John). |

Cheesy beat me to the question previously. Anyway, Charlie, pull up a chair and hang out for a while. Funk. |
|
Screw Charlie- YOU should hang out for a while, Funk. |
|
It should not be an either/or proposition. |
|
They've cut me off at work. That was where the majority of my posting time came from. Mobile IE doesn't let me post from my phone. Sucks to be me. Funk. |
|
While you're sitting back at home watching the Knicks (hahaha), pull up a laptop and peruse the crap and post about the days events. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
|
|
And put on a hat. |
|
I wouldn't talk to Charlie about chairs if I were you. He's had bad experiences... "Thug means never having to say you're sorry." - UTurn

Did we establish whether or not the hat would interfere with headblade-related issues? |
|
Hat makes the headblade better. 'strue. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

Did I miss something? Who said Weiderhold came back to PC? The post that yot linked was from a third-party site. Was there an IRC visit or something? |

I hope you pay closer attention to your briefs than you do PC! <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

Hey jh0, time's winding down to make your one post of the year. Hop to it. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

Didn't he already get his post in this year? I thought somewhere back in the first half of the year... "Thug means never having to say you're sorry." - UTurn

I want more Derek Smart. GET IN THE VAN I GOT CANDY

Derek Smart. Who's going to complete the summoning? Any game where competence can be measured by the amount of clicks per minute is not a strategy game.

Derek Smart. But I don't think it works any more. Game Developers: Don't forget the zombie monkeys.

I keep my briefs on... by day. Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.

You just think you want Derek Smart or one Mr. Miller. You don't really. "Thug means never having to say you're sorry." - UTurn
|
|
All I really, really want for Christmas is for Scott Miller to show up and tell us how "Duke's Fat Burrito" changed the way consumers in Dallas looked at Mexican food. |
|
I also bet that if he were connected with this place, the Duke Facial would take on an entirely different meaning. |

Matt Perkins (#119): You just think you want Derek Smart or one Mr. Miller. You don't really. No one can question my desires, though. I registered a domain in honor of Mr. Smart and his big brain. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.

I may not be around much during the holidays, so I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Fucking Christmas...and remember, Santa hates liars. "Thug means never having to say you're sorry." - UTurn

There is a lot of truth in the story, just not the important bits. :) I used the true parts to add some grounding to the more fancy free parts. And yeah, been out of the Duke world personally for about a year and a half now. About 1/3rd of the 2006 era Duke team landed at Gearbox on the Aliens FPS project. It's very very strange to see DNF stuff as an outsider now. I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed they didn't just wait until they could do a video that would finally put the 2001 to bed. As it is, I still watch the 2001 video for my hopes and dreams of what I want out of DNF. I was expecting them to do a blow the doors off the barn thing, where weeks later people are still stammering around going "I still can't believe it was just that awesome", but this felt more like a firecracker and less like some napalm. |
|
Oh, and hey to all the familiar faces again after so many years of silence. ;) |
|
I love how that guy commented your story about the dangers of litigation and how you should take it down immediately. So my replacement RB guitar actually did ship already and should arrive tomorrow. No free game for me. Sniff. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.

It felt more like fartcracker. #124 by Charlie Wiederhold There is a lot of truth in the story, just not the important bits. So, you got threatened by a chair leg and signed some super-secret-NDA contract, but it wasn't Tim Sweeney who knocked you out, but George Broussard, right? I knew it. So it is a secret global conspiracy of game developers that control society! |
|
Now that makes the chair story worth reading. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.

Cool! You never see animals going through the absurd and often horrible fooleries of magic and religions. Only man behaves with such gratuitous folly. It is the price he has to pay for being intelligent but not, as yet, intelligent enough. --Aldous Huxley

Fun with Post-Its! I was thinking of trying to track down some miniature ones, like 1" square, and make a whole bunch of them. Better than staring out at the warehouse. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.

I was expecting them to do a blow the doors off the barn thing, where weeks later people are still stammering around going "I still can't believe it was just that awesome", but this felt more like a firecracker and less like some napalm. I'm not sure that's possible anymore, even if they come up with something that really is genuinely barn door explosive then it still won't get a fair shake. At this point the DNF saga is entirely separate from any game that might once have been involved, the story is the story and nobody cares about the game. If I was Scott or George what I'd do is a) pull the plug, b) write a tell-all bestseller and c) make games. Of more interest however, if you're at Gearbox, is Borderlands. I can't forgive them for Blue Shift, the Halo port or for giving Foodbunny cancer, but damn if that game doesn't look mighty fine. At least, it does in my head. Blue Shift was just fine. Especially the last part with the half-concealed proto-teleporterish thingie. Old, decrepit technology being used in lieu of contemporary science always wins. Actually, that is what had saved T3 of all things for me. #10 - Why not both come out of a window?

You know what, FUCK Blueshift. $30 for an eight hour game? I was so pissed, and still am, and I want to know who's responsible. |

You know what, LOVE Blue Shift. $0 for an eight hour Half-Life game with not-overdose-of-Xen? I was so pleased, and still am, and I want to know who made that classic scenarios where marines fought aliens and you got to watch and throw moles and grenades on them. |

#141 by Dingle You know what, FUCK Blueshift. $30 for an eight hour game? I was so pissed, and still am, and I want to know who's responsible. Heh. That's nothing, mate. Both BlackSite and Soldier of Fortune: Payback retail at twice that price and are about half as long. And they're shit. Dum - What I've seen of Borderlands looks good enough that I want to know more. The weapon generation system was pretty staggering, the driving looked a blast and you only need to say "open world action RPG" to me and I'm already salivating. It was a Randy "Most Enthusiastic Man on Earth" Pitchford demonstration I witnessed, however. Seems like a lovely guy, but I always get the feeling that the show of supposedly ad libbed fratboy whooping is actually expertly crafted. It trips some kind of paranoia switch in me that makes me wonder just how accurate a picture of the game you get from his presentations, particularly since it's hard not to be buoyed along by his cheeriness. I don't know if there are videos of him double-teaming with Brothers in Arms military advisor, Col John Antal, but it's worth a google. The pair of them are mad as a bag of knees. In one viewing of Brothers I was at, there was a minor glitch - a rocket clipped through an enemy without exploding. Some journalist in the front row made the mistake of smirking. You don't smirk at Col Antal! Antal's loomed above him, barking, "You ever fired a rocket launcher, son? No? Well, I have - and sometimes you miss!" - words and stuff -

The NSA 0wnz popular firewalls and 'secure' email services CRYPTOME reports that the US National Security Agency (NSA) has remote administrative access to several of the most popular Windows PC firewalls, and that it has also taken control of a number of supposedly "secure " email services within the past few months. It writes that the personal computer firewall software products from MacAfee, Symantec and Zone Alarm all "...facilitate Microsoft's NSA-controlled remote admin access via IP/TCP ports 1024 through 1030... without security flag." You missed the joke. |

Mm, Blueshift. I recall a couple of events that must've taken ages to get working just using Worldcraft. An Alien fps huh? Or Aliens fps? Hmm…, google does not provide the clearest of answers. Need more info. If my damn timemachine was working! "I'm not even angry / I'm being so sincere right now."
|

Needs info? The game is titled Aliens, that should be enough info. Couldn't look more forward to it. "I've always viewed masturbation as a pretty positive thing."

And yet it's been called Alien fps elsewh… oh fuck it, nevermind, you're right it does sound cool. "I'm not even angry / I'm being so sincere right now."
