where the fuck did anyone say anything about the WoW UI being revolutionary or innovative? I didn't say you said that. I just don't see any reason to sing praises about something that's been here before, just because it was implemented in great game. |

The wheel cannot be improved upon. I mean, it's a perfect circle, how can you top that? Any game where competence can be measured by the amount of clicks per minute is not a strategy game.

At least you don't see no one praising some car as having the most round wheels ever and attributing its sales to high quality wheels. Sad thing is, you don't change UI in game as easily as wheels on a car. |

It's polished, that's what it is. Can you please show me where I said it was new? 'Cause I don't remember ever typing (or implying) that. Yeah, it's just a polished diablo, but so many games get the UI so wrong. Take for example guild wars. Fundamentally, it's the same game. You click on spells in your actionbar, and the spells go off on screen and a little animation plays and things fall over dead. Like you said: Diablo. HOWEVER, what guild wars gets wrong is telling you what the fuck is going on. You click on a button. Did I do anything? Did the spell mis-fire? Did lag lose the spell? What the hell happend? The game gives no feedback on your input. I've often found myself clicking an attack several times because I didn't think the game registered it the first time 'round only to have it activate a couple of seconds later with no feedback as to why. WoW does this, it does it well. It gives an immediate, almost tactile feedback as to what you can and cannot do. It's surprising how many games don't do that. Add on top of that the level of customization WoW allows for, and that is why most people think its one of the better UIs around. Please note that nowhere in this post did I use the word "new" or "innovative". Except for that last sentence. |

OK, I'll stop attacking Squeaky as of this moment. You didn't say it's new, you have (in post #93) used 2 paragraphs to describe what you like about WoWUI and then tried to insult me. So I flamed back "OMG RLY? That's unheard of!" and that's it. You were funny for a moment. I haven't played Guild Wars, so I guess I can't deeply appreciate the WoWUI, and it sounds retarded. Giving no[t enough] feedback to the player is IMHO a design flaw and should not get past beta testers. Oh, and I totally love that Half-life sound "tnn" when you press Use on something unusable. Especially with good echo. |

To tie this drivelling insanity back to the original comment: a good UI makes a game much more accessible than a crappy UI. And accessibility is key to getting lots of people to play your game. |

JJ I completely agree with your list of women that I don't get the attraction too. Max, Lopez is beautiful and should be ashamed to have mentioned her on that kind of list! Also, I'd had Cate Blanchett to that list. She looks almost alien to me somehow. eggbert That's a lot of time and effort into that list...a scary amount. I get the impression you already had that written down in an excel document somewhere... Caryn I agree completely with your list, except for the everyone thinks they know UI. I'm horrible with UI design. It's one thing that still completely confounds me to this day, 11+ years of development later. I don't know how to learn it either...I think I'm borked. Yeah, you can definitely improve it and things like Cartographer seem absolutely necessary once you start using them...but unless you're going on raids or the like, you don't need more than the default UI. Speaking of Assass Creed, is anyone else really annoyed about the goddamn futuristic twist that Ubi keeps hinting at but not spilling? It's like some jerk constantly saying "I've got a secret and you don't know it nanananana". Well check out this tidbit on the scifi stuff from someone who saw the game recently (from Eurogamer): "Ubisoft would not elaborate on this but did assure me that everything is explained and becomes clear and logical within the first few minutes of the full game."
