You may have questions or want to discuss options. It's only natural. Run with it. Let it out. Second, You can talk about photographic techniques, technical or artsy. How to get this effect or that effect. Third, everybody who's not interested in either of the above can share links to their Flickr (or whatever) photostream, their public photoalbums on blogs/websites, self portaits (hrmm...), or whatever other random photographic detritus you have lying around. Damnit, people. I submitted the first one. I thought the composition was better (mainly because of the leading lines formed by the bridge rail receding into the background) and liked how her hair curled at the bottom and lay over one shoulder. My wife liked the second one better, too. Shadarr, which Nikon is that? |

I got the 18-200mm, because it's about the equivalent of the 28-300mm I have on my film camera, plus VR. I asked the guy if any of them have built-in macro, but apparently that's not possible with auto-focus lenses. So I guess somewhere down the road I'll have to get a macro lens. |

Shadarr, so far our experience is it's a really nice lens. Haven't experimented too much with the various VR settings and such, but we got some good shots at max zoom. Perhaps I'll even upload stuff to our group at some point! |

Also, Flickr does have a pretty stupid interface. I feel like I have to rediscover every time how to add a contact. |

OwenButler, we had a rocket ship like that near a playground us growing up. That's was cool, back before BigToys took over the playground. Shadarr, I like the picture of the sitting seagull. It looks cold out, was it? jjohnsen, you're a dork, but I mean that in a good way (re: multiple shots of yourself blended into one). jamie, I think that you take the best shots here. I, and my wife, we just snap away, but you can see the thought you put into your shots. It, along with this one were for a photography contest with the theme of clone. It was the only thing I could think of. On my family blog I put up a photo every day, so I run out of ideas all the time. To keep myself motivated I do things like enter assignments that give you a theme each week or enter a contest with a specific theme. It keeps me from being lazy and taking pictures of stuff other than my kids. I actually have an idea for another one of those shots with my daughter that I'm trying to figure out. I did one of those too. They're fun and pretty easy. Just get a tripod, take several pictures using a timer or remote control, put the pics a photoshop file as different layers, then erase the appropriate parts of the top layers sot that the ones below show through. #66 by CheesyPoof OwenButler, we had a rocket ship like that near a playground us growing up. So, for uploading pictures to flickr, what resolution should I use? When uploading stuff to my own server I generally just resize the files off of the camera by 25% (they are some obscene resolution / file size) with no crops whatsoever, which puts it at a nice 640x480 or there abouts. not that I have anything interesting to take pictures of, but I've got a tripod and I intend to use it! |

I take your point, but of the 30 pics currently in the Flickr group, 9 of them are of kids or have kids in them. 10 if you count Cheesy's picture of the two African kids who I assume are not his --AS FAR AS HE KNOWS. But here. My "no kids" set. Well, maybe one or two. But mostly none. |

So, for uploading pictures to flickr, what resolution should I use? It's a free account, I don't resize shit. I figure flickr will re-size it to the max allowed anyway. It does. Actually, it creates several different sizes, which you can access via the "All Sizes" icon above the pictures. I usually upload mine in 900x600'ish. Not sure what the max size is. |

Jamie, that's a poor way to analyze it. If I were to just upload my 300 pictures from the latest vacation would that make it not kid oriented? LP's pics are mainly kids, you like to post pics of your kids, JJ likes to post pics of his kids. See what I'm saying? |

On flickr you can access it by clicking more information to the right of your photo. For example, this is the EXIF data from the latest photo in my FLICKR stream. I try to mix it up but my two kids are the easiest subjects when I'm in a hurry and just want to get some shots off. I try to do a good mix, but in reality my website is meant to keep my parents and in-laws up to date on their grandchildren, so they'd be disappointed if all I had were nature shots. Also somewhat PC and photo related - Chris has an interesting site, Faces of the City, where he's taking photos of random New Yorkers. He also has them on Flickr.
