He's 32, just broke 500, so it's possible. Give him another 10 productive years and it could happen Another 10 years? Are you high? A-Rod doesnt' have the ego/spite that Bonds has to keep playing a game even though his knees are just bone grinding against bone. My crummy little life
yeah, A-Rod won't be that productive into his 40's without the same kind of help Bonds got. My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

Probably. I heard an opinion that the driving force behind Bonds taking steroids was longevity. Of course, until steroid use is proven, the point is kinda moot. Bonds and A-Rod were harder runners that Aaron. The play hard defense and stole more bases. I think A-Rods legs will start giving out around the mid 30's and I don't think that he will feel the need to stick around to be HR king. Again, Bonds had a giant ego and such spite against his haters that he really has gone above and beyond to hit this milestone. That's just the way I see it. My crummy little life
To be fair, Bonds isn't accused of just taking 'roids, but also HGH and a slew of other things. HGH is not only untestable, but that's exactly what it's supposed to do. I hear doctor ads locally now about getting started on HGH therapy... My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

It was amusing that the other day I was talking to a coworker about how A-Rod has been seemingly doing what he's done on the level, and then the next day I see a headline on CNN.com's sports section where Larry 'Chipper' Jones was saying that steroids were going to follow him, too. Apparently Jose Canseco says he has some "info" about A-Rod. And really, Canseco hasn't been much wrong, even if he looks the fool. |^^^^^^^^^^^^ |||__

Good ol' hanged. Still ingesting Barry's cream and clear, I see. :P I watched Aliens, and I didn't even get a lousy t-shirt.
Chipper was kind of misquoted and it really pissed him off. He wasn't accusing A-Rod, he was saying that in this era everyone will get hounded with questions. |
It is the Steroid Era and every slugger will be tainted by it. What is a shame is that everybody is ignoring the pitchers which were just as juiced. As King Kaufman says, only time will tell how these players will be remembered. I think Barry will be viewed as the best player of his generation before steroids and the best juiced player during this Steroid Era and unless he gets convicted, there will always be an asterisk by any asterisk attached to the record. Good ol' hanged. Still ingesting Barry's cream and clear, I see. :P Heh. I was expecting that. My crummy little life

Field at Monster Park now named Bill Walsh Field. One of the loudest cheers came when Mayor Gavin Newsom announced that the football field at Monster Park will now be called Bill Walsh Field. Many of the roughly 8,000 people who attended the service rose to their feet in sustained applause. "We love you, Bill," said a fan. Monster Park still own rights to the stadium and the name will still be just that, the field however will be named in honor of Walsh. |
That's great. Hopefully the new stadium, if it ever gets built, will be named after him with no corporate name tacked on. |
That's great. Hopefully the new stadium, if it ever gets built, will be named after him with no corporate name tacked on. HA! My crummy little life
Not as far-fetched as you might think, the voters in SF passed a referendum to ban future corporate naming of Candlestick, but because the Monster Park agreement was already in place before the referendum it was not rescinded. Not sure whether it would apply to the new stadium or not. Probably also depends on the stadium being built in San Fransisco proper, which is unlikely. |
*sigh* Bless San Francisco for their impotent proclamations. Since the Niners staying in SF proper is pretty slim and I think this will make it even slimmer. That said, I agree wholehartedly with it. It was never Monster Stadium, in my eyes. It was always Candlestick. My crummy little life
I have less trouble with stadiums that got corporate names from the beginning, but it really bothers me when stadiums get renamed. Is FedEx Park a new stadium or just an old one with a new name? I have no idea. When I hear "Monster Park" it means nothing to me, it doesn't immediately trigger as "home field" the way Candlestick does, and if you go around the league naming stadiums I'd be hard pressed to tell you who plays where. You get none of the sense of history and place that you did with something like RFK or Comiskey Park. At least Lambeau Field hasn't been renamed yet. |
A company should name themselves Lambeau and grow big enough where people will think they bought the name rights. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
At least the word monster has a meaning other than "some corporation's name." Also, I approve when fans give a corporately named stadium a nickname, IE when the Philly fans renamed Lincoln Financial Field "the Linc" not 10 miuntes after the name was announced. Even more so when the people from Lincoln Financial cried about it. "We paid a lot of money for those rights. Please use the full name and give us respect." "No, now bite us." |^^^^^^^^^^^^ |||__

Another Fox News exclusive: South Carolina Inmate Hits Michael Vick With '$63,000,000,000 Billion Dollar' Lawsuit Alleging Al Qaeda Ties Why did they put the full numeric value AND the word "billion"? Is it 63 billion billion? |
It's probably literally from the suit, hence in quotes. I wouldn't put much stock in an inmate in SC knowing the connotations of what they wrote. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
Oh I see, it was the guy who wrote "the lawsuit." I still wouldn't have put it past Fox News to have made the mistake themselves though. |

Damn you Poof! |

More Falcons dog shenanigans: From PFT's rumor mill: PFT Editor Mike Florio has checked in to report that he's hearing from sources with knowledge of the investigation that cornerback DeAngelo Hall could be the Falcons player called to testify if quarterback Michael Vick goes on trial. We previously noted that CBS 46 in Atlanta is reporting that an unnamed teammate of Vick's, described as "a prominent member of the team," could testify if Vick chooses to face a trial rather than plead guilty. Surely at least a few other team members were aware of what Vick was doing, the question is if anyone else was involved at all. Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux involved in felony animal cruelty case for killing girlfriend's pitbull Atlanta should just ban all their players from owning dogs to be safe... |

Ugh. I was doing some preliminary fantasy research, looking at rankings and such, and trying to come up with an excuse to draft Vince Young. I don't think that's going to be possible though, there's just SO much stacked against him this year. First, Madden curse, second, sophomore slump, third, the Titans had a ridiculously bad off-season. I think they managed to get worse in every single area, WR's, defense, O-line, Running back, you name it. If you look at the roster, either the team is going to be bad and VY's numbers will go down, or the team will be bad but VY scores each and every point they make all season. I wouldn't rule out either possibility. |
So you're drafting him in the second round then? Remember, PCFFL drafts are ridiculously QB-heavy in the early rounds. |
If you take anyone other than Manning or maybe Brady (betting on big production with the new and improved WR core this year) in the first round for quarterbacks, you're being plain silly. I'm just saying. My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

Matt Perkins (#149): If you take anyone other than Manning or maybe Brady (betting on big production with the new and improved WR core this year) in the first round for quarterbacks, you're being plain silly. I'm just saying. Here is the first round of the 2006 PCFFL draft: 1 Jersey Devils* Peyton Manning (QB IND) 2 Boston Leet Doodz Larry Johnson (RB KC) 3 Victoria Roughriders* LaDainian Tomlinson (RB SD) 4 Down Under Redbeards Shaun Alexander (RB SEA) 5 Utah Teen Brides* Carson Palmer (QB CIN) 6 The Poulsbo Marinos* Matt Hasselbeck (QB SEA) 7 Arizona Outlaws* Eli Manning (QB NYG) 8 San Francisco CG Robots Rudi Johnson (RB CIN) 9 Vancouver Rough Riders Marc Bulger (QB STL) 10 The Brooklyn Jerked Chickens Tom Brady (QB NE) Ooh, who did Perkins draft in the first round, hmm? Maybe a QB? Boy by the name of Hasselbeck ring a bell? |
Shadarr, I think you should follow last year's example and draft Manning first as well. |
My first two picks will be QB, RB. |
As will mine. Either that or Rb, QB. |
Well, my first two are back to back so it makes not difference. |
This graph of the great home run race is awesome. |
m0nty You don't remember that I was autoed last year? It wasn't pretty. I spent all year trying to recover from that. And that you drafted ahead of me! :P Here's why you don't draft QB's in the first round (except obvious exceptions). You can only start one QB each week... RBs? Two. And they will make as many if not more points on average than your QB. With the third spot in this draft, I don't really know how to draft. I'm assuming it'll go something like this: 1) LT (duh...but it's also good because I hear Shadarr likes to trade him) 2) Manning (this one is not 100% sure, but it's what I would draft) 3) ... Right now I'm thinking either LJ (who's still holding out last time I heard) or Steven Jackson. I'm not 100% sure on this one yet, but that's where I'm leaning. If either of the two players mentioned above happen to make it down to the 3rd pick, I'll gladly take one of them. My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in
"I'm not sure it's possible to make a "subtle" jab at Matt's writing ability." - Ergo |
But most QB's are more reliable week to week and less injury prone than RBs. |
The top 10 running backs are pretty reliable and injuries are why you want to draft them often and early. My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

PCFFL Championships won by lwf: 1 PCFFL Championships won by Perkins: 0 |

*shrugs* Draft as you will. Get lots of QBs. My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in
"I'm not sure it's possible to make a "subtle" jab at Matt's writing ability." - Ergo |
I don't think Matt gets it. |
I really hope more people turn out for the draft this year than have in the past. The draft is the most exciting part of the whole season. |
Yeah, I'm going to be there this year... it's a real pain in the ass to be autoed. I plum forgot about it last year until about an hour after it happened. That was suck. My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in
"I'm not sure it's possible to make a "subtle" jab at Matt's writing ability." - Ergo |

I already know I'm going to have to autodraft. I'll be in Philly on the 1st. Here's hoping that you can prioritize for the auto picker. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
You're going to get fucked, there's no way to autopick a decent team. Unless you write about 2000 lines of if-then code. |
You can prioritize the draft picker, you're just screwed if it goes through all your picks because people pick them up first. |
You can prioritise but you can't contextualise. |
Please warn when the draft is going to happen so I can organize myself and chris. |
Saturday Sep 1st. Two weeks from tomorrow. |
Yeah, I'll forget if that's the only warning I get. |
I'll make sure to warn you in IRC, Gabe. |
