#36 by deadlock Yesterday or the day before. Huh? Funny, haven't noticed it. And there used to be a way to stick it to the Man. It was called rock 'n roll, but guess what, oh no, the Man ruined that, too, with a little thing called MTV!
Yeah, he popped in and gave a review of Transformers (or Die Hard 4, one or t'other). |
Then left forever again... |
This isn't a dig at you Warren, but why do you still read/post here? The same reason I post anywhere. Boredom. And occasionally to ask a question about something. |
Sounds great. "…a four-dimensional real vector space equipped with a nondegenerate, symmetric bilinear form."

I'm here. I've just been spending a lot of time finding geek girls to occupy my time with. Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.
He might but his reasons for leaving are completely valid. This place is very stagnant. Ah, so that's why your trolling has become more transparent. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.
Even my trolling has become stagnant. |

I just got back from the Daft Punk concert in Amsterdam. Ho-ly fu-cking shit that was fucking genius. It was the exact same set from last year when they played at Coachella and in Belgium, which is too bad but was to be expected. They did have a 15-20 minute encore at the end with some stuff I'd never heard before. Really glad I went there and got to see them. And there used to be a way to stick it to the Man. It was called rock 'n roll, but guess what, oh no, the Man ruined that, too, with a little thing called MTV!

deadlock, my point is, Px changed quite a bit before bailing out entirely - and not for the better, either. Maybe it was the sudden fame, maybe the 'not drinking so much anymore', maybe something entirely else - I don't know OR care. The only change I care about is that he stopped posting. All the other stuff is immaterial. He's a lot younger than he comes across, so it's not all that surprising that he's changing when you consider his actual age. I know I changed a lot in my 20s. Horrible song of the nonce: Left Behind
Didnt Px get a new gig/job/contract, or some such recently? |
Seriously - what's all that got to do with age? Px used to be one badass poster, and then he turned all wuss on us. That's all that matters. I refuse to chalk that change all up for 'maturing' or whatever. Fuck him, is all I'm sayin' - he's a buster, plain and simple. "If I have seen further than others it is by judicious use of teh driver hacks"

I never got my complimentary bag of dicks when I left forever, but I didn't go all jeet about it either. Nevermind that I was never really here to begin with. |
Px is a busy guy, and he's gone through some big changes that have made him even busier. I'm pretty sure that's the reason he couldn't be bothered to re-hash debate #3303 regarding the merits of vegetarianism. - words and stuff -
Marsh: I'm pretty it isn't or it isn't the only reason though I know it was probably a large contributor. He'd been posting less anyway. I reallly like Px - I think it's a shame that he left 'forever' over a stupid debate that was second only to religion in terms of pointlessness and being unwinnable for either side of the debate. I suppose I was always convinced that if Px ever left for good it would be because the rest of the world was a desolate nuclear waste and he'd gotten bored waiting for a thread to be updated by someone else. |

Shadarr (#48): The only change I care about is that he stopped posting. All the other stuff is immaterial. He's a lot younger than he comes across, so it's not all that surprising that he's changing when you consider his actual age. I know I changed a lot in my 20s. This is probably the real reason he left. MOST people change a lot in their 20's. Just from the beginning of the time he got here to the time he left, he changed a lot. bishop (#51): I never got my complimentary bag of dicks when I left forever, but I didn't go all jeet about it either. Nevermind that I was never really here to begin with. You live! Are you still gaming? Looking forward to stealing pants in Quake Wars? deadlock (#53): Marsh: I'm pretty it isn't or it isn't the only reason though I know it was probably a large contributor. This is pretty much how I feel about the whole thing. I liked Px a lot. Different circumstances growing up and I could have been pretty similar to him. I think it's crappy that he left on a such a sour note on such a silly debate. I realize it was important to him, but militant vegetarianism? What a way to go. BTW, Frets on Fire is a fucking awesome game! Indeed... ok, I've got to ask now: scores on medium for the three stock songs and Bark at the Moon? ( just for laughs: 81k for 'This week...', 119k for 'Bang Bang', 90k for 'Defy the Machine' and a shameful 77k for BatM ) "If I have seen further than others it is by judicious use of teh driver hacks"

I don't know that there are pants to steal in quake wars, but if that ad tracking nonsense doesn't prevent people here from playing, I will probably join in. |
bishop (#57): I don't know that there are pants to steal in quake wars, but if that ad tracking nonsense doesn't prevent people here from playing, I will probably join in. I'll be playing. And according to the beta reports, it's very much like ET. With pants stealing included. My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

I got 116k on TWIBMPG (on easy). That's an awesome song. Haven't played medium yet, I'll go do that in a minute. The other stock songs I think I got good scores on too (around 100k) but they're kind of boring. Now I've got that all-in-one mod pack running with the Guitar Hero II songs and it just rocks so goddamn much now. And there used to be a way to stick it to the Man. It was called rock 'n roll, but guess what, oh no, the Man ruined that, too, with a little thing called MTV!
if it has pants stealing, I'm there. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard playing a multiplayer game until I played ET with bishop. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" — "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."
Now all we need is a server! I'm thinking about it from a modification aspect. I had this big client side plan for ET involving zombies and other fun things but I demanded custom colors and the Q3 engine had a few things hard-coded into it back then so I never got around to doing anything with it. If they're using Doom 3 / Quake 4 I can probably bring that concept back since most of the lighting effects are set through text-editable files, and that won't be an issue. |

You demanded green, didn't you?! Admit it! |^^^^^^^^^^^^ |||__

Hmm - I had a crack at TWIBMPG on easy, and it got me up to 96k from the previous record of 65k. Strange, considering that was a few months back and I hardly ever played it in between (and never on easy). "If I have seen further than others it is by judicious use of teh driver hacks"

I always demand the finest in colors! |

bishop You don't know by chance know a good place to buy a server on that you can pick which game, configure it, etc? I'm looking for a cheap place to be able to host my own game server cheaply...something I can have as much control over as possible. I don't have a big enough pipe to do at my house. #63 by anaqer Hmm - I had a crack at TWIBMPG on easy, and it got me up to 96k from the previous record of 65k. Strange, considering that was a few months back and I hardly ever played it in between (and never on easy). I generally find the easy modes more fun because, well... they're easier and you don't run into the limitations of holding a PS/2 keyboard instead of a guitar controller as often as on medium. Damn, I just got nearly 200k on Lynyrd Skynrd - Free Bird (from GH2), but that song's like 10 minutes long or so. Great to play. And there used to be a way to stick it to the Man. It was called rock 'n roll, but guess what, oh no, the Man ruined that, too, with a little thing called MTV!

Remove the word "cheap" from your query and there are probably a few dozen places that can take care of you. Last time I cared enough to check, EA was renting 1942 servers at something like 8$ a player slot, per month. And the local ISP laughed at me when I went to talk to them about maybe doing something, so, yeah. |

Yeah, cheap is my problem... My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

So the news giant that is news.com.au, has this story up on its page... Astonishing new twist But last week came an astonishing new twist to the Roswell mystery. Lieutenant Walter Haut was the public relations officer at the base in 1947 and was the man who issued the original and subsequent press releases after the crash on the orders of the base commander, Colonel William Blanchard. Haut died last year but left a sworn affidavit to be opened only after his death. Last week, the text was released and asserts that the weather balloon claim was a cover story and that the real object had been recovered by the military and stored in a hangar. He described seeing not just the craft, but alien bodies. He wasn't the first Roswell witness to talk about alien bodies. So far, as the qt3 thread mentions, I don't see anything about it anywhere else. Me, I'd love to believe that is was aliens and the truth will come out. But while I hope, I just don't believe it. Not that aliens exist and could potentially crash here on earth...but the story could have been covered up for this long if it were true. Complete and utter bullshit. My soul aches that people give this crap even an iota of credibility. You never see animals going through the absurd and often horrible fooleries of magic and religions. Only man behaves with such gratuitous folly. It is the price he has to pay for being intelligent but not, as yet, intelligent enough. --Aldous Huxley

I leave PC several times a day. It might stick if it weren't one of the few message boards they didn't block at work. |

Some really interesting cell phone news: Here’s the basic idea. If you’re willing to pay $10 a month on top of a regular T-Mobile voice plan, you get a special cellphone. When you’re out and about, it works like any other phone; calls eat up your monthly minutes as usual. But when it’s in a Wi-Fi wireless Internet hot spot, this phone offers a huge bargain: all your calls are free. You use it and dial it the same as always — you still get call hold, caller ID, three-way calling and all the other features — but now your voice is carried by the Internet rather than the cellular airwaves. From the description in that article I don't know I'd use it now (specific cell phone required, doesn't work at login required hot spots, etc), but it sounds really interesting. Especially if it catches on. It'll mean more hotspots and maybe support by phones, etc. My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

G-Man (#73): [b[MattP: Google is your friend. Google is my friend, but he doesn't argue well for a specific service and the merits of that service. At least not unless I tell him ask other people about their reviews. I was kinda hoping someone here had a service in mind, etc. You guys may not know as much as Google, but you're infinitely more fun to talk to. I generally find the easy modes more fun because, well... they're easier and you don't run into the limitations of holding a PS/2 keyboard instead of a guitar controller as often as on medium. Oh, I only play the stock songs on medium - all the GH songs feature the dreaded pink frat on medium and above, trying to use which I've given up on pretty quickly. From the description in that article I don't know I'd use it now (specific cell phone required, doesn't work at login required hot spots, etc), but it sounds really interesting. I could see it as a great way to ditch the land line. Right now I have Primus VoIP for the unlimited long distance. If I could get the same thing on my cellphone just by being home (or anywhere else with wireless) I wouldn't need the two phone numbers. Horrible song of the nonce: Left Behind

Oh, I only play the stock songs on medium - all the GH songs feature the dreaded pink frat on medium and above, trying to use which I've given up on pretty quickly. fret. And it's orange, not pink. |

OH SHIT! You got me on the spelling thing - but it's pink, all right. "If I have seen further than others it is by judicious use of teh driver hacks"

I'm glad MS is extending their 360 warranty of the three rings of death to 3 years (1 year per ring), but I hope they fixed the root cause in new consoles so I won't have any trepidation when I get mine. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

Yeah, I don't really care about warranties, I want them to iron out the bugs. Horrible song of the nonce: Left Behind

That's kind of at the crux of my "first" console (the Wii being my "second" console, despite actually getting it first) debate. Which ever comes first, the 360 getting a new, and presumably more reliable, design or the PS3 getting a critical mass of games I want to play, is probably going to be the one I buy. Of course, price drops wouldn't hurt either. |

#78 by anaqer OH SHIT! You got me on the spelling thing - but it's pink, all right. Maybe you Euros get a faggy version of the controller? I'm looking at my PS2 GH and xbox360 GH controllers and they are both very orange. #81 by eggbert That's kind of at the crux of my "first" console (the Wii being my "second" console, despite actually getting it first) debate. He's playing Frets on Fire, the crappy PC knock-off. And from what I gather he's playing it with a keyboard. Horrible song of the nonce: Left Behind

#83 by Shadarr He's playing Frets on Fire, the crappy PC knock-off. And from what I gather he's playing it with a keyboard. What the fuck is the point of that? |

Not having to buy a PS2, Xbox 360 or Guitar Hero? Yeah, I know: SO POOR! And there used to be a way to stick it to the Man. It was called rock 'n roll, but guess what, oh no, the Man ruined that, too, with a little thing called MTV!
I meant playing Guitar hero with a keyboard. Kinda defeats the entire point of the fucking game. |

Plus with FoF you can import all kinds of songs and it has tons of great mods. And there used to be a way to stick it to the Man. It was called rock 'n roll, but guess what, oh no, the Man ruined that, too, with a little thing called MTV!
