As opposed to.... Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.

so you make fun of iPhones but you still use the crappy Cingular service and are somehow pleased to be using Windows Mobile? Just what level of dumbass are you? "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" — "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."

The kind that uses 3g instead of Edge, and has an open API I can write apps for. Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.

At half the price withoutout a 2 year locked in contract. Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.

Yeah, writing my own apps is what I look for whenever I spend my money. Boy, do you know where people's heads are at. fuck your song

yet your 'phone' is just an ipaq. The only real advantage windows mobile has is that it's not the PalmOS. I've used the iPhone interface. Microsoft ought to be red faced and embarrassed for not having come upwith it by now. All touch screen interfaces suck. ALL OF THEM. They get out of sync, they lag, they are slow. About the best is windows mobile, because even the tablet PCs have lag and sync issues. The iPhone completely does away with that. In fact, you are looking that the future interface option on iMacs and Macbooks. It's just smoother, slicker, and the true reason to feel nothing but love for an iPhone, even if it's not great as a phone and costs too damn much. But you are too much of an elitist dumbass to realize that those first time buyers you make fun of are paving the way for the new and cool for your next phone. You honestly don't really understand technology near as much as you think you do. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" — "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."

I'd take the cingular service over the ATT service anyday, at least around here. And 3g is light years beyond the iPhone crap. I really can't believe they shipped without it. On a different note, Warren...are you trolling on qt3 re: the three year extended warranty? I don't want to bother laying into if you're just fucking around... comments like this make me believe you can't possibly be serious: I'm disgusted with the whole situation. It shouldn't even exist. I don't feel that I should be happy and grateful now that they've finally agreed to step up and start fixing defective consoles for free. My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

Matt I'm not trolling, I'm serious, please don't bother responding. |

LPMiller (#107): But you are too much of an elitist dumbass to realize that those first time buyers you make fun of are paving the way for the new and cool for your next phone. You honestly don't really understand technology near as much as you think you do. While I agree with much of your complaints about touch screen technology up to this point, I can't agree with the idea early adopters should be applauded. You adopt if the product is good, not so that future generations of the product can be good. That's a really horribly justification. My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

If you have the PS2 (or 360?) guitar, and a USB adapter you can use the guitar with Frets on Fire. Yeah, in case it wasn't clear Frets on Fire has a pink fret while guitar hero has a orange one. It's so FoF can be a "different" game then Guitar Hero. I however, am bad at both (though I don't do the keytar thing for frets on fire, I remapped it to the home row). My pinky seems to activate other fingers involuntarily and I occasionally mix up my middle and ring fingers, especially if I have to shift position. |

LPMiller (#109): I'd take the cingular service over the ATT service anyday, at least around here. ....yeah. Same company. ...? Then I stand corrected. I'm still with T-Mobile and pretty happy about it. :) My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

First Superman Returns is the worst comic book movie ever, and now this. Perkins can't wait for the weekend to get here. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

CheesyPoof (#119): First Superman Returns is the worst comic book movie ever, and now this. Perkins can't wait for the weekend to get here. Wait a second, just because Superman Returns is utter shite and Warren's opinion on the 360 is pretty dumb, doesn't mean I'm not really serious about those arguments. I stand behind everything I've said about both. Except the whole worst comic book movie ever thing. That as a wee bit of exaggeration in hind sight. :P My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

Matt, a) Would you mind summing up the qt3-discussion for us who don't read qt3 before refering to it? or... b) What the hell are you doing refering to qt3 discussions on pc? Keep it at qt3, if Warren doesn't answer you there, or whatever, that's that. Choose one and execute. fuck your song

True, I'm running a 400 mhz ARM instead of a 600 ARM, but I get DSL speeds instead of 14.4 speeds for my net usage. Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.

20% of Americans think the sun revolves around the earth? Seventh paragraph down. Personally I just don't buy this. There's got to be something more going on here, like wonky sampling or a poorly worded item, like "Do you believe in a heliocentric or geocentric paradigm?" I just can't believe that if you asked "Does the sun revolve around the Earth?" 20% of people would say "yes." The rest of the article is kind of interesting, though. |
|
If you believe the bible should be interpreted literally, that earth is six thousand years old, and evolution is a myth - a geocentric perspective is hardly far fetched. fuck your song

True, I'm running a 400 mhz ARM instead of a 600 ARM, but I get DSL speeds instead of 14.4 speeds for my net usage. Bang bang bang that drum. However, what does it really matter to the average person? How much data do they need to transfer to/from their phone? Come on. As LP implied and I'm going to flat out say - you have no idea how regular people use technology. |

mgns (#121): Matt, a) Would you mind summing up the qt3-discussion for us who don't read qt3 before refering to it? or... b) What the hell are you doing refering to qt3 discussions on pc? If you want to see the thread and his craziness, go here. It really starts in earnest around page three or so I think. bago I do have to agree with about your grasp on why/how the average uses technology. Most of us here don't shop like your average consumer. Really, it's just Jibble that does. :P My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

Does the Bible specifically state a geocentric perspective? Even if it can be inferred fairly directly from a "God likes Earth best" mentality, I'm still having trouble believing that result. It's anecdotal for sure, but my in-laws are pretty devout Catholics but I couldn't imagine them thinking that the sun revolves around the Earth. |

Warren's right. It's nice that MS increased the warranty again, but coming as it does after 18 months of furious denials that there was anything wrong with anything, them basically admitting that every console out there is probably going to break doesn't make me want to dance. And it still wouldn't even if I still owned a 360. Now if they came right out and said "We found the problem and here it is" and went on to explain the exact issue, said it was fixed, and offered a new fixed system to any current system owner who wanted one, that would be worth commending. "Games are not novels, and the ways in which they harbor novelistic aspirations are invariably the least interesting thing about them." - Steven Johnson

Wow... are you going to complain that water is wet now too? And to infer that all of the systems will break because they offered a three warranty is a mighty big leap. They did say they found the problem, they are fixing it for future systems and here is what we're doing about the current systems that may break...we're offering free repairs for three years. Yeah, I can't stand those damn Microsoft bastards. My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in

battered. Fuck. |

they said that before, too. Look, I'm glad they upped the warranty on Red rings. They should be applauded for that. But the fact is they do a lot of dancing around the problem too, and frankly never should have had the problem in the first place. they left people speculating for months as to the high failure rate, still haven't really answered that question, and it's no wonder people with no problems are just sitting there waiting for it happen. They have done SOME things right, but they've fucked up big too. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" — "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."

We 360 owners are still better off today than we were last week. Game Developers: Don't forget the zombie monkeys.

Indeed. I for one am glad to have the warranty, even though my year-old 360 has exhibited no problems. Warren Yes, I am a battered wife. Because absolutely nothing has gone wrong with my 360 (though I did have to let it rest a few one time). That makes sense. LP Yeah, I agree completely, they fucked up. They even admitted it. They didn't blame in production or anything else, they said it was a design flaw and their fault. Yeah, they should have mentioned that earlier and done something about it earlier, agreed completely. But whining about the fact that they didn't, now that they have is incredibly silly in my mind. They can't time travel, I think, and to offer up a full recall would be a nightmare, for them and us. For them because of the huge costs and operating snags it would cause, not even regarding the Live service. For us because I'm better if everyone of the 11 million plus users went to return their 360, you'd not be seeing a replacement for a very long time. Here's the point. It doesn't burn anything down. It's not harming small children. In some unknown number of cases, it's dying. Whether that's 10%, 30% or all some percentage and all launch systems, no one but they know (I too would like to see those numbers, but it doesn't make much business sense for them to release them), we don't know. But we do know, if a system has a problem, they will fix it for free. I'm really not getting the complaints that this isn't enough. You're impossible to argue with. Forget it. I'm impossible to argue with because we don't agree? You see a huge problem here, I see a good enough solution. #138 by Matt Perkins Whether that's 10%, 30% or all some percentage and all launch systems, no one but they know (I too would like to see those numbers, but it doesn't make much business sense for them to release them), we don't know. But we do know, if a system has a problem, they will fix it for free. This is a rather good indicator of how large the problem is. While a recall would cost more some times it'd better to just put things behind you and move on rather then suffer continueing loses |

yotsuya (#146): I think sometimes that Perkins LIKES to be piled on. I honestly don't care. It used to bother me, back in the day. But I realized you guys love doing it, so who am I to say it's no good. I express my opinions. I don't lie, I don't troll (most of the time) and I believe in what I say, even if sometimes I'm a bit over reactive or use a wee bit of exaggeration... None-1a (#147): This is a rather good indicator of how large the problem is. While a recall would cost more some times it'd better to just put things behind you and move on rather then suffer continueing loses So you think a recall would somehow be cheaper than the billion dollars they are planning on spending? I have to believe it would cost more than one billion by a LONG shot. As for the fact that they are putting up the billion meaning something in terms of numbers, I'm not following it. Yeah, it means there is a problem and the number is not insignificant, but that doesn't sound like actual numbers to me... #143 by Matt Perkins That's how I grew up arguing. You don't just express your side of it, you take pot shots at the other side and see if they can hold up. :) I gave up pointless arguing when I reached my mid-20s. It's annoying and a complete waste of time. It's particularly pointless when doing it on the internet. I just don't see why you thought Warren wasn't being serious. It's not an extreme position. I basically said the same thing myself at the beginning of that thread. MS needs to fix the damn problem so their console doesn't fail, rather than putting a bandaid on the tip of the iceberg. If I buy a console, I expect it to last longer than its game support. Three years is better than one, but it's still not good enough. Horrible song of the nonce: Left Behind
