Push this, I dare you!
November 20th 2006, 23:44 CET by Greg The fearless overlords are preventing wanton destruction of this site by giving the masses a trickle of topics which clearly only they have interest in. So, I dare you to capitulate to me and force this topic in! |

It's not always more efficient to poke Gabe in IRC. :P Gabe, the reason this perturbed (maybe a bit strong) is that all I hear is when I ask for fixes on the topic crap is, "just tell me". So I did that. And you decided it wasn't worthy because you don't like PC topics. Silly. I really will skip ever submitting a topic again. Not that that's a huge loss, it just is. I love me some me. | "Aren't I on record as loving trannies?" - McBain
wtf? How are you extrapolating the topic you wrote to me not liking any submitted topic? |
I don't think it's that big a deal. Someone runs this site and it isn't us, so I'm fine with the person running said site deciding which topics get pushed in, especially then they have little to no bearing on the actual discussion. If a topic doesn't get voted in then the topic starter will just do what you did and post it in another thread anyway and it'll get discussed regardless. If I were running this site I'd probably refuse to push topics I didn't think were interesting either. And if I submitted a topic and it didn't get pushed because the pusher didn't feel it was interesting enough I'd just find another topic to submit instead of refusing to submit one ever again out of petulance. Current novel word count: 24,000 words (I'm hoping by putting it here it helps motivate me)

it's not a huge loss, it just is a huge loss? Aren't we just sorta past topics at this point? All we really need is one sports thread, one non sports thread, and place for joker. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."
OMG, Caryn disagreeing with me and then passing judgment on my actions? NEVER! Nothing like grinding it in guys. I realize I don't expect for more from here, but sometimes I hope for it. I love me some me. | "Aren't I on record as loving trannies?" - McBain
I meant, it's not a big deal, it is what it is. But yeah that doesn't read like what I meant. I love me some me. | "Aren't I on record as loving trannies?" - McBain

As long as they leave The Thread alone, Gabe and Morn are still God to me. Actually, the liberalism of the media - as a general thing - IS a major fallacy. What the media is, is a whore. -LP Johnsen Family

Rubbing temples quietly... You really are touchy today. You need a nap or a drink or something. Current novel word count: 24,000 words (I'm hoping by putting it here it helps motivate me)
Matt, I don't see caryn passing judgment. She was giving her take on it as she thought it would affect her. I second the nap/drink. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."
I already said I'm grumpy today... and yeah, she did pass judgment... when you say someone is acting a certain way, you're passing judgment on their actions. Just because I'm grumpy doesn't mean I'm wrong. I love me some me. | "Aren't I on record as loving trannies?" - McBain
Passing judgement on an action would be saying, "you're a horrible person for doing this." Matt, me saying you're cranky is making an observation. Saying you're a horrible person for being cranky is making a judgement. I did the former, not the latter. Current novel word count: 24,000 words (I'm hoping by putting it here it helps motivate me)
Semantics? Did you just pull semantics on a internet conversation? Shall we redefine some words next? Really. I love me some me. | "Aren't I on record as loving trannies?" - McBain
she did pass judgment... when you say someone is acting a certain way, you're passing judgment on their actions. No, actually this is making an observation about one's mental state. You tend to use the word "judgement" a lot in an almost religious but what I feel is really erroneous context. You tend to take things very personally that are merely observations and that's when you move from the objective "observation" to the erroneous subjective "judgement". Current novel word count: 24,000 words (I'm hoping by putting it here it helps motivate me)
......you'd think after all this time, your period and caryn's would sync up. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."
Semantics? Did you just pull semantics on a internet conversation? Yes I did, because you're being really silly and cranky and oversensitive and you seem to think that because you said you were that it's okay to continue acting this way. Stop it. Current novel word count: 24,000 words (I'm hoping by putting it here it helps motivate me)
I never said it's ok, I said I was grumpy and STILL right. Not that being grumpy was ok. And you want me to stop being grumpy? Here I go............................................................................................ Nope, still grumpy. I love me some me. | "Aren't I on record as loving trannies?" - McBain

Matt, Just call her a fat whore, she'll put you on ignore and you'll be much happier. Zep-- Save the cheerleader ... Save the world.

and to boot, I've got to be one of the nicest grumpy fuckers on this board. Don't make me get all Jeet up in here! I'll do it!* *No I won't. I love me some me. | "Aren't I on record as loving trannies?" - McBain
Wude, you jackass, the problem with that is I like Caryn... I don't know why. Even on non grumpy days we seem to annoy each more than anything else. *shrugs*. Heck, I like most of you fuckers... I love me some me. | "Aren't I on record as loving trannies?" - McBain

Okay, Matt. Whatever you say. Current novel word count: 24,000 words (I'm hoping by putting it here it helps motivate me)

CALM DOWN. That is all. Lower the threshold for votes or time passed before something becomes live. I don't know what it is right now. A week seems good. Lady, people aren't chocolates. But you know what they are, mostly? Bastards. Bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling.

Or you know..create more alts and push your own topics thru. Works for me. Zep-- Save the cheerleader ... Save the world.

Today I shall mostly be listening to nester agents. someone shoot me. |

Now I understand why Caryn says she can tell when Matt or I am having a bad day by our posts. Actually, the liberalism of the media - as a general thing - IS a major fallacy. What the media is, is a whore. -LP Johnsen Family

bite me, jj. :P I'm just too easy going normally. Or something. And I'm not having a bad day, I'm just somewhat grumpy. :) Leaving work now, the day is getting better. I love me some me. | "Aren't I on record as loving trannies?" - McBain

I declare this thread to be wholly hilarious. |
Anyone here not named Matt Perkins seen 24 Hour Party People? Good movie. I watched Aliens, and I didn't even get a lousy t-shirt.
I'm both drunk and seriously considering hanging out in IRC as opposed to reading the site. It's my estimation that
every man ever got a statue made of him was one kind of sumbitch or another.

IRC ftw! |

Bitch cakes? The Japanese may make all the cars, the Chinese all the clothes and the French all the, um, Frenchmen. But damn if we don't lead the world in catchphrases.
yot, I got about halfway through it and couldn't keep watching. Not saying you're wrong, just that it wasn't really my cup of tea. Lady, people aren't chocolates. But you know what they are, mostly? Bastards. Bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling.

Jib- I could see why. I really like the bands involved and knew a lot of the back story, so it was more of a visualization of stuff I had already read about. I did play it with subtitles because, MAN, them accents was heavy. I watched Aliens, and I didn't even get a lousy t-shirt.

http://www.glumbert.com/media/aircar nope, not a flying car, but the Aussies showing why oil isnt going to be the future... 2-3mins charge, for 2 hours driving, nifty power to weight ratio, damn near silent? hook a solar pump up to charge batteries and run a compressor and .... well hell, its the perfect inner city vehicle. |

I bought a tv today. Well, I won't actually own it until next payday (when I told the A/V manager to bring it in). It's a Toshiba 37HL68. Retail price: $1799CAD, my price: $1400CAD. I knew I was still working at this shit job for a reason... |

hook a solar pump up to charge batteries and run a compressor and .... well hell, its the perfect inner city vehicle. Normally it'd be even odds between McBain and None-1a to be first to tell you that video you linked is just another example of an energy medium and not a source, but McBain's been a bit quiet just recently so my money is on None-1a. Fantastic, two fresh new topics to discuss! /resumes lurking... |

I think it's terrible, in that "*shrug*, eh well, life goes on *rolls eyes*" kind of way, that we have moderators acting out according to their own interests. But that's because I see the voting system as broken and Gabe as someone who can help us until.. uh.. PC7.0 arrives? .. Haha okay, saying it out loud makes me realise how foolishly naive it was to think like that. Pushing stuff through based on own interests is the fun thing to do after all, so it's not all that surprising. So I'm basically with Matt (except the bitchy whining rants that followed Caryn's remark), except I also don't really care and it's not surprising and I'm just here to boost my post-count anyway. The Emperor: What?... Oh, F*$K!... That wasn't even fully paid for yet!... Who's THEY?... What the hell's an Aluminum Falcon?
LURKER.. ALERT! LURKER.. ALERT! *klaxons whirring, uniformed men running up and down corridors* Wait, false alarm, not a real lurker.. he's posted before. I can't believe you nominated Raven Shield or NFS: Underground for GOTY in '03 (thanks Jibble!). The Emperor: What?... Oh, F*$K!... That wasn't even fully paid for yet!... Who's THEY?... What the hell's an Aluminum Falcon?

I got a brand new pair of roller skates, you got a brand new key. "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" "He has testicles, and they dangle nicely."

I just got ID'd in a supermarket... for buying sherry vinegar. I had a short and fruitless argument with the creature at the check-out, trying to convince her that I wasn't buying any alcohol, and that, even if I had been, I was five years past the legal age limit to do so. The manager got called over. Unfortunately, I wasn't carrying any recognised proof of age on me. I tried showing them my Cardiff University ID card, and the manager shook his head and said, "This has expired, mate." Right. Well, I won't demand access to your collection of ancient manuscripts then. Eventually I convinced them to check if vinegar was on their list of restricted items, and when they found that (shock!) it wasn't, they had to let me purchase it, though somewhat grudgingly. Unfuckingbelievable. |

Tin-pot dictators are one of my fav pet peeves. it's been raining all night, your grass is still wet
too bad you're not the one I need to forget one each for walks and for talks, you're miss attraction-distraction a desperate interaction until I see some other plan of action |
At least they didn't taser you. I would have though, you student hippy! |
"This has expired, mate." I hate that. So what? The card expired so that's no longer me in the picture and that's no longer my information? Fuck you. |
I find that the solution to these problems is to simply carry a valid identification card with me at all times. I also make sure to subject myself to random searches/seizures as deemed necessary by the state. CARRY YOUR PAPERS, CITIZEN. CURFEW IS AT 9PM. Lady, people aren't chocolates. But you know what they are, mostly? Bastards. Bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling.

Jib CARRY YOUR PAPERS, CITIZEN. CURFEW IS AT 9PM. LOL. I should carry ID more often. People in Cardiff just assume I'm old enough, because it's a student town. Not so, in this crummy bit of London because people quite reasonably assume that as soon as you're 18 you'll get the fuck out of it. Still, weirdly enough, I didn't anticipate any problem buying vinegar. And I'm not a student any more, deadlock! Hence my expired card. Still, I like the guy's logic that it ceased to prove my age after it had expired - surely that just makes me even older? I remember Bill Bryson complaining about a similar incident when he was asked for ID on an internal flight in America back in the days when you didn't have to have your brain biopsied at check-in. He produced an expired driving licence, and when the official complained that it was no longer valid, he said, "Well, I promise not to try and drive the plane." |

<blog> So I'm in Minnesota for the holidays. Yesterday, I was in Madison visiting my brother and grandmother. I saw Casino Royale and it was pretty good, though Bond and the love interest got pretty obnoxious and silly at times. I think the new direction for Bond is great as the last couple were incredibly dumb. So far its been a decent holiday with my family. I'm surprised. </blog> World of Warcraft is a pie eating contest where the reward is more pie.

Marsh: I was going to call you a dirty ex- student but thought better/worse of it for some reason. My wife completed a part-time course a few years ago and still gets away with presenting her student card for discounts and so on. |
