Some random thoughts picked up from around teh intarweb:
- Bigger thirxty harddrive. Possibly 100gb?
- Will we see a price and release date for the PS3?
- WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
- Duke Nukem Forever will be playable (Hah!)

Predictions? Guesses? One fifth guessing?

I'll be sure to let him know that a nerdy guy on PlanetCrap who has weapons on his walls and loves Disney approves of his lifestyle choices.  That'll make him jump for sure.

Let's not attempt to have a discussion, by any means! If you don't like, or question, something a PC sacred cow is involved with - it must be squashed immediately!

I ask again, what are you planning with UT2k7 that'll make it worth buying? More vehicles? A new announcer? More spectator modes? How'd that melee combat work for ya from the console version? Are we going to see anything new or more of the same? I mean new as in beyond bumpier graphics and new maps to run around in doing the same thing we did last year, that is.

Sarcasm aside, me too. It comes to the point where you have to realize that you're not going to get anything revolutionary in the FPS gaming genre. It's all still really just Doom with different rules, different weapons, and shinier features. Once you get over that you can, you know, just enjoy it.

I'm really looking forward to Lego Star Wars II, Super Monkey Ball Adventure and anything/everything Wii-related.  And New Super Mario Bros. for the DS.

And the more I hear about Wii games, the more I think it will be the perfect console for non-gamers.

That is really Nintendo's goal.  A lot of their newer "non-games" like Nintendogs and Brain Age and a lot of the Wii stuff was developed by a team they have working in-house to come up with ways to get people who aren't currently gamers into the fold.  They sold over 2 million copies of Brain Age mostly to people WAY outside of the normal gaming demographic, so it seems to be working so far.

You can't lump Jeet with me even though he is now trying to jump on the troll bandwagon (about 3 years too late, I might add!)

For one thing, Jeet's troll persona will always be overshadowed by his Ultimate Fanboy tendencies.  A proper troll would never say anything good about post-Beauty and the Beast, pre-Pixar Disney because even a troll has limitations on how ridiculous his posts can be.

UT2004 was fun.  Add a couple of new maps or weapons to that, make it prettier, and you have more fun.  Sounds good to me, I don't care if there is zero innovation.

Rag himself is pretty easy, it's how well you do the sons that determines whether he goes down or not. They're not that bad once you get used to them. Warriors need to pick them up and group them together, then casters AoE carefully so as not to pull agro and the dps targets them one at a time and downs them. Assist targetting is crucial in this case. Also slam a greater fire protection pot just as you're collapsing, it'll help a ton!

So every single person here whines about there being no innovation in games, how graphics don't matter and shouldn't be the focus, and blahblahblah - except when it comes to UT? If it's the same game as last year, only prettier, and that makes it better then you're all graphics whores who lie the whole rest of the year.

What would I want to see in UT2k7? Learn some lessons from what Battlefield 2 has done right, for starters. Also, bring back Assault in the correct way and give us detailed and fun objectives for each team to not only meet, but to counter and repel. Sure, you may take the forward loading bay of starship x, but maybe we can take some other objective that repels that landing and forces you back. The same old routine of Push to point A, then the gear clicks and now we start from there from then on to Push to point B, then click, repeat is old and tired. Plus it - make it better.

Better doesn't mean prettier. Better doesn't mean flashier. Better doesn't mean new vehicle models that behave pretty much like the old vehicle did, only this time they look different.

Maybe they're doing all this and more with UT - but past experience with the series tends to say they're probably not. Warren is suddenly cautious about running his mouth due to job security, which is a first, but I don't know if that indicates that there are great features we don't know about yet, or if it means there's not much new to see here besides new pretties.

And Nutty, your subscription to The Myth is past due. Please remit. Final notice. (I've never had nice things to say about the Disney management from the era you just identified. Nothing but condemnation from me from how they slowly and almost deliberately ruined not only the brand, but the company. Check your facts, quit wriggling your finger around in your ass, then come back and say something witty. If you can.)

See? I can still feed the trolls! Tuppence a bag!

Oh, and I'd throw in some decent character designs for the first time in the series history. The original UT wasn't bad, as it was mostly Unreal derived, but it just turned to shit after that. The characters are not only not memorable, most of the designs are just downright silly and/or just plain bad.

No, it's not. It's been his (and Caryn's) standard operating procedure for some time now ever since he had his job security threatened by some random internet passerby who quoted him on another web site. The subject of that post was Unreal, if I recall correctly.

Oh, and I'd throw in some decent character designs for the first time in the series history.

If graphics don't matter, then why is character design so important?

The rest is fine, except that if you really want to play Battlefield 2, why not just play it? What you're asking for is actually less variability between FPS titles rather than more. This kind of hurts your argument for forward progress.

First of all point out a post that I've whined about no innovation, and second point out a post that I say graphics don't matter.  I've said more than once that I'm excited for HL 2 Episodes and Sin Episodes.  Not because they will give me something new, but because they're more of the same.  If I like Sin Episode #1, then I'll probably enjoy 2-6 even if there is nothing more than a new weapon and new maps.  I would be excited about UT even if Warren wasn't involved.  I didn't have a problem saying Quake 4 was crap even if Caryn worked on it.  I enjoy the UT series, and I don't enjoy the Battlefield series.  Why can't they make Battlefield more like UT?
