Tidings of Joy!
December 15th 2005, 21:06 CET by Chunkstyle

What are you asking for this year?  What are you buying others?  Why do English people eat puddings?  Why do people buy that album of dogs barking Jingle Bells?  What's your favorite Christmas memory?  Do you believe in Santa Claus, or are you a joyless Scrooge?

Or, to put it in more personal terms, "SEEN IT" is the equivalent of:

"Well, m0nty, maybe in Web 2.0 links will come with their own opinions from magical shared information sources! You should have your programmers get right on that."

Adds nothing to the conversation and serves only to waste space.

With your plan they'd be all like "everyone with weasels in their pants thinks they're great dancers but they're not, they've just got weasels in their pants."

If I want a bunch of links with little or no thought in between, I'd go to Blue's or EA or (shudder) Shacknews or any of the other gazillion Ctrl-C-Ctrl-V sites out there. I would hope PlanetCrap could be host to something a bit more interesting.

Jibsy-wibsy, you can't expect anyone else to make the effort to talk about the link if you have demonstrated that you think it's a waste of effort yourself. QEFD.

Someone should do a machinima with the Kong game having the ape lipsync to In Da Club.

Hmm... did I miss something or am I overreacting?

Isn't Tinfinger just a fancified version of a Ctrl-C-Ctrl-V site? It's not different just because computers are doing the copy/paste instead of humans, you know.

In any case, I think you're missing the point here. I don't go to those sites because I figure that content will eventually find its way here if it's worth looking at.

Jibsy-wibsy, you can't expect anyone else to make the effort to talk about the link if you have demonstrated that you think it's a waste of effort yourself. QEFD.

If I thought it was a waste of effort, I wouldn't have posted the link. I just assumed that it might spark a discussion. Instead, I get a "SEEN IT" and a half-assed attempt to explan how "SEEN IT" really means "I would be glad to discuss these findings if you would be so kind as to provide me with your thoughts on the matter."

No amount of explanation is going to excuse the fact that "SEEN IT" is this board's equivalent of a six year old begging for attention because he's bored with what's currently going on around him. You might as well just yell "BOOGER!"

With your plan they'd be all like "everyone with weasels in their pants thinks they're great dancers but they're not, they've just got weasels in their pants."

Of course it is, or at least the news portion of it is. Those sites have their place, they remain useful to some people. But this is a message board, with allegedly opinionated people on it.

In any case, I think you're missing the point here. I don't go to those sites because I figure that content will eventually find its way here if it's worth looking at.

The point is that I couldn't give two shits about the vast majority of news content any more, it all washes off me. What I care about it is people talking about it who I like sparring with. I'm done with straight news. Maybe you're not, but I'm just communicating what my priorities are.

I guess we should all just stop posting links to news stories then. I'm sure that will help spice up the discussion around here. Honestly, at this point you're just being ridiculous. People care as much about your thoughts on news stories as they care about my position on "SEEN IT!"

You're twisting my words. I'm not saying you should not post links at all. What I'm asking is for some intellectual effort being put into the post with the link so that I know you're not at the mental level of a  bot.
