What do you do for kicks
September 27th 2005, 15:44 CEST by wingwalker What is it that you do that you are not telling us? We all know a little about each other but this thread should be about the not so obvious stuff. Like Caryn's knitting, PX's garden in the back yard. You know the kind of stuff that makes you smile and removes you from your everyday life. Go on..you're dying to share your closest hobby with PC. |

Spanglish wasn't bad, but the wife character was such an awful person that even in the end I hated her, and I don't think I was supposed to. Actually, the liberalism of the media - as a general thing - IS a major fallacy. What the media is, is a whore. -LP
|
|
Spanglish is a shitty movie because its insulting to minorities. Kid: Because you went to the bathroom on mommy's dishes?
Willie: What the fuck? No! |
|
Yes, the Tea Leone character is a fucking demon. Kid: Because you went to the bathroom on mommy's dishes?
Willie: What the fuck? No! |
|
I openly hated the Leoni character throughout the whole movie. I thought that was the point, no? We make to you the apologies for inconveniences!
|
|
I thought it insulted minorities on purpose -to show that's how most of white america thinks of them. We make to you the apologies for inconveniences!

This is how I feel about Spanglish Kid: Because you went to the bathroom on mommy's dishes?
Willie: What the fuck? No! |
|
I thought it insulted minorities on purpose -to show that's how most of white america thinks of them. I didn't see it that way. The ending with the little girl not going to the nice private school makes it seem like taking opportunities would be "too white" or not "keeping it real" which is so profoundly idiotic that the movie made me angry. The problems the little girl had were having a lying moronic enabling white woman allowing her to misbehave. Kid: Because you went to the bathroom on mommy's dishes?
Willie: What the fuck? No! |
|
I can't stand Adam Sandler, at least in the typical Adam Sandler movie way (where he plays the same fuckin' annoying man-child). I liked Punch Drunk Love though. |
|
So what made the man-child of Punch Drunk Love acceptable to you, Eric? I always saw the man-child of his other movies as being fantasy, and the PDL version as reality, which is why PT Anderson is such a great artist for so acutely capturing that. Kid: Because you went to the bathroom on mommy's dishes?
Willie: What the fuck? No! |
|
Reading, computers, video editing (with an eye on breaking into porn), sports. That's me. That reminds me, tell Jen I liked her demo tape, and that the money order's on the way. |
|
That reminds me, tell Jen I liked her demo tape, and that the money order's on the way. Jen has no problem with porn. If she could make some money, that would be just fine with her. Kid: Because you went to the bathroom on mommy's dishes?
Willie: What the fuck? No! |
|
I also appreciate you being the silent cameraman. But what was that *fap* sound I heard in the background? |
|
Ok, here's the promised kitchen pics for any of you who really give a shit. Not everything is 100 percent finished (still no door handles) but it's about 98 percent done and I'm tired of wating. Before. During. After. (plus two pictures of the dog) Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

So what made the man-child of Punch Drunk Love acceptable to you, Eric? He was sympathetic. He didn't have annoying, grating voice like in other movies. That's the problem I have with Hollywood stars, is that they become caricatures of their most popular characters. Bruce Willis will always play a tired, soon-to-be-retired cop/detective/soldier (when was the last Bruce Willis movie you saw that he looked like he got a full night's sleep?) |

Bruce Willis will always play a tired, soon-to-be-retired cop/detective/soldier (when was the last Bruce Willis movie you saw that he looked like he got a full night's sleep?) You are so correct, Eric. I like to see actors and directors stretch their talent to do other things. |

my hobbies include whitewater rafting, flyfishing, crunk, and RC helicopters. |
|
You can teach those to your son. |
|
Nice, Ergo. I bet that cost more than you want to talk about... |
|
Hobbies besides (actually less and less) gaming include : toying around with hardware ie. resuscitating semi-obsolete computers, reading, drinking, taking long walks in the night, "so lonely" amount of headbanging in front of the screen and lately picking up J2ME. "There's no place like home."

'Sup, Warren? |

Ergo, looking good! I'm supposed to get my countertops this weekend. I'll be done except for some small bits, hopefully, and will post some photos too. What's the dog's name? Also, is there any substantiating of the rumor that chocolate labs are nutty? I've had a few hunter friends claim they are pretty unstable when compared to the other labs. We make to you the apologies for inconveniences!

Adam Sandler is an odd one. I don't think I've ever seen one of his movies in the theater or rented one, but I've seen several on cable, and I actually tend to enjoy them. Liked Wedding Singer, liked 50 First Dates, liked The Waterboy...hm..okay, maybe those are the only ones I've seen. |
|
I read a fair amount. Mostly good Sci-fi and fantasy, some trashy. Currently reading Timothy Zahn's Star Wars books, which is about half-way between. I spend some time gaming, but not as much as I used to. Games that don't grab me right away,or annoy me in any way, tend to get shelved even if they're generally a good game. Happened to Locomotion, seems to be happening to Silent Hill 2. In order to combat that I've started using Gamefaqs a lot more. Any time something starts to frustrate me I go look it up before it has a chance to ruin the game for me. Right now I'm playing Rebelstar and it's been great so far. I collect pennies. In bulk. I have about three restaurant-sized jars full, each of which I think weighs 35-40 pounds. I play hockey and volleyball to stay in shape. I've never been able to just exercise. Fortunately, even though I didn't do anything except sit around on the couch all summer, I didn't gain any weight. I do a lot of volunteering. I'm a team leader with the local search and rescue group and a member of the rope rescue team. I don't mind being a leader on actual incidents, but I don't have any interest in teaching which is what most of it seems to involve. I also built the websites for them and my church, and I'm also the newsletter editor for the church. Most recently I'm doing the recording for the annual pledge drive (which Christian churches would call a tithe). I'm not sure how they did it in previous years, but I think it was pretty low tech. I've got a spreadsheet set up that will spit out all the information anyone could want, and all I have to do is enter the numbers as they come in. Hopefully it won't be more labour intensive than that. I also sing in the church choir, and have been doing more solos in recent years. Last spring I collaborated with a floutist on a meddley of Irish folk songs, and we're toying with the idea of doing an original composition. For anyone who doesn't know, it's the Unitarian church, which is why I can go there and be a good little choirboy an upstanding member of the community and still be a died-in-the-wool agnostic/atheist. And of course, UAC. Not a lot needs to be said about that, I think. Without me, Internet would never have had sex with the DS. -m0nty

taking long walks in the night You too? I've gone on nighttime walks through most of the local parks on numerous occasions, and I've never seen anyone else out there. It's good to know I'm not the only one. Without me, Internet would never have had sex with the DS. -m0nty

Okay, now I'm learning a little more about you all. Thanks. My hobbies....not that I actually do much of any of them any more include sewing, I make a ton of my own clothes and work costumes, collecting old hats from the 20's through the 60's era. I used to do comics a lot too. Now I'm just waiting for them to be worth something so I can reclaim part of my house. I have one cat that allows me to live in the same house as her. I collect really old books 150 years plus. They usually fall apart when I try to read them but I like them anyways. Right now it seems every moment I have...I need to wrench on the airplane. I also work at my parents store when not wingwalking. Produce manager....just me and the fruits! |

Shadarr, that sounds like you desperately want someone to hurt you...or are YOU the batman guy taking the fight to the criminals? |

#85 Jibble Nice, Ergo. I bet that cost more than you want to talk about... It cost a lot, yes. I think it's worth it, though. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

#88 Penguinx What's the dog's name? Also, is there any substantiating of the rumor that chocolate labs are nutty? I've had a few hunter friends claim they are pretty unstable when compared to the other labs. That's Daphne. She's half Choc. Lab and half Chesapeake Bay Retriever. She's extremely sweet, smart and not nutty at all. She'll be five in February. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

Shadarr, that sounds like you desperately want someone to hurt you...or are YOU the batman guy taking the fight to the criminals? I don't go to the downtown park where the gay people hook up and the meth addicts stash the bikes they steal, I go to the ones that are out in the middle of nowhere. I'm a lot more likely to run into a bear or a cougar than any sort of criminal. Besides, my night vision is pretty good. I generally don't use a flashlight unless I'm cooking, so I doubt anyone who is there would know I'm there. Without me, Internet would never have had sex with the DS. -m0nty

Ergo Speaking of Kate Winslet, did anyone see the US premiere of Extras on HBO last Sunday? It's the new show by Ricky Gervais, the guy that did The Office. As I mentioned in my only ever qt3 post, the best bit of the whole series is Patrick Stewart. It's the last episode of the series so you'll have to wait but it's truly comedy gold-pressed latinum. I don't think it's going to get the acclaim that the Office did, partially because it's a more traditional format but mainly because it's just not quite as good. Definitely worth watching though. Oh, and your kitchen is nice enough, but then I didn't see much wrong with it before the changes either so I'm curious as to why you went for the revamp. All that money clogging up your bank account? On Topic: usual stuff really, reading, tv, movies, Planetcrap, gaming (not decreasing unlike many here), occasional computer-related mini-projects, and I go for a walk up a mountain every day without fail. I don't have a social life for reasons I won't go into, so the above is pretty much my life summed up in a seven item list. MP3 Of The Week: This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren.mp3 (?)

Shadarr, curiously enough (or not, depending on who you ask) I've found that I enjoy these walks much more during fall/winter. Every now and then there comes a summer night that equals any of the darker ones, but generally rain and fog is vastly superior for this. "There's no place like home."

That's Daphne. She's half Choc. Lab and half Chesapeake Bay Retriever. She's extremely sweet, smart and not nutty at all. She'll be five in February. Aww. I have a Daphne too. She's the smartest chicken I have. She gets out of the chicken pen and raids the food I leave out for our feral cats. What's with the Warren hate? We make to you the apologies for inconveniences!

#103 Dumdeedum Oh, and your kitchen is nice enough, but then I didn't see much wrong with it before the changes either so I'm curious as to why you went for the revamp. All that money clogging up your bank account? The before pictures don't really do it justice--the cooktop and oven were falling-apart pieces of shit, the tiles in the counters were cracked and the grout was disgusting. It's a major revamp. What's with the Warren hate? Just for brevity, he´s an asshole. "Uhm... it back-fired a bit. :( " - Andy, 12/20/98

Oh, I also forgot my mp3 thing, I can probably dress that up and pretend that my life is actually eight items long, not seven. Those seven itemers are losers! MP3 Of The Week: This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren.mp3 (?)

My main hobby these days is getting stoned and spending an hour or two on Wikipedia. God bless that web site. It's a shame I can't remember anything I've read when I'm done. Up until a few weeks ago WoW was my biggest hobby. I played a priest in a raid guild. But the guild I was in started falling apart, and it got too job-like, so I quit. Thinking about going back and just playing casually, but that game is a slippery slope for me, and I don't want to get caught up in it again. I also read. Currently I'm almost done with my 4th or 5th read-through of "A Deepness in the Sky." I have a very bad habit of rereading books I like instead of picking up new ones. Also been playing console games a bit more lately, since I quit WoW. "The internet has gone all fiddle faddle foo."

Shadarr, curiously enough (or not, depending on who you ask) I've found that I enjoy these walks much more during fall/winter. Every now and then there comes a summer night that equals any of the darker ones, but generally rain and fog is vastly superior for this. Me too. If it's stormy, or snowing, or there's a really heavy fog, I have to go out. One time it was raining so hard I couldn't see more than 20 feet. It was fabulous. You're in Victoria? I thought that city is all nice and clean? The gay thing may just be homophobic fearmongering, but there was a story on the news a couple weeks ago about the cops finding a huge stash of bikes that meth addicts had disassembled. Without me, Internet would never have had sex with the DS. -m0nty
