The Real Half-Life 2 Thread
November 12th 2004, 20:46 CET by Anonymous After countless delays and marketing blunders which kept Half Life fans and ATi customers around the world on the edge of a nervous breakdown, the long anticipated, game play redefining and hyped up beyond belief Half-Life 2 enters the arena. #86 I bet they were screening the camcorder encode Eyegore is talking about in your cinema. |
Regardless of all the hate over Jar-Jar and midocloriens or whatever, criticizing the movie on it's bad visual effects that were state-of-the-art at the time is bullshit. Even if you hated the movie for a dozen reasons the special effects can't be one of them. Ditto AOTC. Some people are just that way though. You can take the best of anything and they will proudly announce that it sucks, just because that's what they do. |
criticizing the movie on it's bad visual effects that were state-of-the-art at the time is bullshit I thought the special effects made the movie suck, but because it leaned way too much on them. Also, while the CGI may not have been bad at all, I thought they showed very little creativity with the ship and fighter designs. Especially the Naboo fighters looked like a 5 minute job. Would you like to supersize or... BURN FOR ETERNITY?

An update: Best Buys are selling it today, according to at least one store employee and a good number of people who have been there. Wal-mart and CompUSA are also on this list. If they don't unlock it now, they're asking for it. There have already been stories of seeing people bitch to employees over HL2 not working, because neither the store employees or the customers know anything about Steam. |
If you go to Best Buy to pick it up, be sure and look for any DS kiosks. Supposedly they started showing up in stores this week. Dood.
hey girls, im browsing this site in links and i must say, that ascii logo posted by dumdeedum looks superb. a fine specimen of the modern symbolic school of ascii art. |
Anonymous just punk'd Anonymous. |
Dethstryk: that's the store's fault then. They knew damn well not to sell it prior to the 16th. I have a hard time accepting that anyone could achieve this miraculously high level of stupidity. - Caryn

I hated Star Wars 1 the Suckass Menaca, and Star Wars 2 Attack of the Love Story. I hope III rocks, and I like the new trailer. Here's to hoping Lucas grew a pair. Children are the future. That’s why they must be stopped today.
I rather enjoyed Eps I & II. |
#94 Neale Dethstryk: that's the store's fault then. They knew damn well not to sell it prior to the 16th. I agree, thought it's going to make every party involved look bad. |
#93 Do you expect me to take seriously the opinion of someone who posts under 'Anonymous' ?? Do you? |
They knew damn well not to sell it prior to the 16th. Yet I doubt they realized that, in this case, selling it early would mean angry customers rather then happy ones. Nihil nequeo.
Anonymous: he's also wrong, for some reason Lynx displays all PlanetCrap posts as centered, so the logo is recognisable but a bit skew-whiff. God, I wish I had something better to do with my time... MP3 Of The Week: Air - La Femme D'Argent.mp3 (?)

Yot, one mans ceiling is another mans floor. Children are the future. That’s why they must be stopped today.

Well, I suspect if enough stores break day and date, they'll go ahead and activate it this weeked. I'm sure valve will push the publisher, but only if they have enough forum noise and pissed off customers to show them. When LP says he's bringing Armageddon, he brings fucking Armageddon. - Caryn, 6/01/2004

"Anonymous: he's also wrong, for some reason Lynx displays all PlanetCrap posts as centered, so the logo is recognisable but a bit skew-whiff." my friend, i was not using Lynx, but Links as i said before. |
I stand corrected. I'd forgotten about Links, which being the superior browser displays it perfectly. Now get a GUI you goddamn luddite, your lack of technology has reduced me to SSHing into a Debian machine to use a text-only browser to view the ascii-art logo of a computer game. That's about 15 levels nerdier than I like. MP3 Of The Week: Air - La Femme D'Argent.mp3 (?)

Half-Life 2 For Sale? November 13, 2004, 4:57 pm · valve If you have purchased a copy of Half-Life 2, we are sorry you are still waiting to play. This is not Valve's choice. Vivendi is insisting that the game has not yet been released, and has threatened that Valve would be in violation of its contract if we activate the Half-Life 2 Steam authentication servers at this time. Thanks for your patience and we will update you when we have more news to share. From the steam news page. When LP says he's bringing Armageddon, he brings fucking Armageddon. - Caryn, 6/01/2004

Don't blame Vivendi, online auth for a SP game sucks. |
Gots to agree with the 'Poof on this one. R.I.P. O.D.B. |
Nah, fuck Vivendi. Valve is the one moving forward in the industry. |
Online distribution is neato-keen and some for of online authentication is certainlt helpful, but everyone knows cracks will be out within days of release. Wy pester the honest customers with having to authentic to play single player? |
for = form |
authentic = authenticate My oldest cat is entranced by any movement of my cursor on screen. It's a struggle to post at all, let alone accurately. |
#109 by yotsuya R.I.P. O.D.B. 35 is ridiculously young to die. And I definitely blame Vivendi. If it were up to Valve I'd be playing right now, online auth or no. |
If it were up to Valve, we would have been playing weeks ago when it went gold. Dood.
I find it amusing that O.D.B. didn't live long enough to become O. |
Seeing as how he stopped breathing in a studiom it seems that ODB OD'd. Immorality: The morality of those who are having a better time.

The ho's in heaven better have his money. www.dailyhowler.com is the single most important website that Americans should read every day.
"The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had." |

I picked up the new Perfect Circle album today. Wow, this has to be the most mindnumbingly pretentious claptrap I've ever heard. I'll give you a sample of the cd: War is bad, mkay People are sheep Bush Sucks! You're a consumer whore WAR! I want it NOW! GIMMIE! *yawn* "Halo 2 is a lot like Halo 1, only it's Halo 1 on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas ... And, the ninjas are all on fire, too."
APC's cover of "Imagine" is outstanding in my opinion. The rest of "eMOTIVe" is pretty good but not up to that standard. That's a big trunk. It fits a tuba, a suitcase, a dead dog, and a garment bag almost perfectly.
#120 Jens Christensen APC's cover of "Imagine" is outstanding in my opinion. The rest of "eMOTIVe" is pretty good but not up to that standard. Imagine is an okay song, much better with the video. The whole cd is ranges from 'alright' to 'meh' to 'CRAP' "Halo 2 is a lot like Halo 1, only it's Halo 1 on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas ... And, the ninjas are all on fire, too."
eMOTIVe is quite crap. But then I usually try to not have high hopes when it comes to cover albums, so it's not as if the album has failed to reach my expectations. Yes, Imagine is probably the best track on the album, but the term 'best' is very relative in this instance. |
I like The Haunted's rEVOLVEr better, because at least their caps make sense. |
Interesting. That's a big trunk. It fits a tuba, a suitcase, a dead dog, and a garment bag almost perfectly.

Well, I suspect if enough stores break day and date, they'll go ahead and activate it this weeked. I'm sure valve will push the publisher, but only if they have enough forum noise and pissed off customers to show them. This is why my friend bought it at Best Buy yesterday. He was hoping if enough people bought it, Valve would turn on the spigot. Looks like th news post from Steam says no. APC's cover of "Imagine" is outstanding in my opinion. The rest of "eMOTIVe" is pretty good but not up to that standard. Heard it on Howard Stern a few days ago, hated it. Actually, the liberalism of the media - as a general thing - IS a major fallacy. What the media is, is a whore. -LP

Well, one does have to take into account how pissed off Viv has been at Valve. I think it's pretty stupid, not how you do business. I mean, if an Italian gets pissed at you, he just has someone wacked. When LP says he's bringing Armageddon, he brings fucking Armageddon. - Caryn, 6/01/2004
I think the cover of "Imagine" is droning and poor. |
Technical question: When I play valve games (any, from the original half life to counterstrike:source) - I seem to have a problem with my sound. It sounds totally pitched down, so all the soundeffects etc seem like they are played at -90% speed. Very strange, never had a problem with other games (battlefield, doom3, worms, maxpayne, etc etc). Anyone got an idea what this could be? |
I also hate the Imagine cover. On a different subject, after my weekly roast dinner at my parents' place, I was called upon to clean my dad's laptop of a "virus" which he had been emailed about. The email, purportedly from administrator@bigpond.com (my dad's ISP), told him to solve his spam relay problem by downloading a .zip file, extracting the .exe inside and running it. Yes, it was a virus. However, Dad was not only relieved to hear he had neither a spam relay problem nor a virus problem any more, but he was exultant that his anti-virus strategy had worked again - his laptop is dual-boot Windows XP/98, ostensibly because he has to use an old 98 app for his work, but he has decided to do all his Web surfing and emailing in 98... AS A SECURITY MEASURE. He had done all that the email had asked him, but the .exe didn't work in 98 and thus he wasn't infected. I've got to hand it to the old man: he may not be smart enough to spot a sucker punch virus email when he sees one, but using 98 sure does neutralise most modern vectors of infection. |
I still use 3.1 for workgroups. Not a virus in sight. |
MSDOS 3 here. "Halo 2 is a lot like Halo 1, only it's Halo 1 on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas ... And, the ninjas are all on fire, too."
I'm catching up to Ergo! |
I download and open all my suspicious emails on my friend's computer. |
I use a typewriter with CPIP. Nihil nequeo.
I just have a youth from the monastery follow me around with a wax tablet and stylus. |
I guess he was dirtier than what was originally thought. Is he now known as Old Dead Bastard? Living in the rat race smoking rat weed
That's not safe from viruses! What if he gets TEH AIDS! Nihil nequeo.
