The Real Half-Life 2 Thread
November 12th 2004, 20:46 CET by Anonymous After countless delays and marketing blunders which kept Half Life fans and ATi customers around the world on the edge of a nervous breakdown, the long anticipated, game play redefining and hyped up beyond belief Half-Life 2 enters the arena. Don't blame Vivendi, online auth for a SP game sucks. |
Gots to agree with the 'Poof on this one. R.I.P. O.D.B. |
Nah, fuck Vivendi. Valve is the one moving forward in the industry. |
Online distribution is neato-keen and some for of online authentication is certainlt helpful, but everyone knows cracks will be out within days of release. Wy pester the honest customers with having to authentic to play single player? |
for = form |
authentic = authenticate My oldest cat is entranced by any movement of my cursor on screen. It's a struggle to post at all, let alone accurately. |
#109 by yotsuya R.I.P. O.D.B. 35 is ridiculously young to die. And I definitely blame Vivendi. If it were up to Valve I'd be playing right now, online auth or no. |
If it were up to Valve, we would have been playing weeks ago when it went gold. Dood.
I find it amusing that O.D.B. didn't live long enough to become O. |
Seeing as how he stopped breathing in a studiom it seems that ODB OD'd. Immorality: The morality of those who are having a better time.

I picked up the new Perfect Circle album today. Wow, this has to be the most mindnumbingly pretentious claptrap I've ever heard. I'll give you a sample of the cd: War is bad, mkay People are sheep Bush Sucks! You're a consumer whore WAR! I want it NOW! GIMMIE! *yawn* "Halo 2 is a lot like Halo 1, only it's Halo 1 on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas ... And, the ninjas are all on fire, too."
APC's cover of "Imagine" is outstanding in my opinion. The rest of "eMOTIVe" is pretty good but not up to that standard. That's a big trunk. It fits a tuba, a suitcase, a dead dog, and a garment bag almost perfectly.
#120 Jens Christensen APC's cover of "Imagine" is outstanding in my opinion. The rest of "eMOTIVe" is pretty good but not up to that standard. Imagine is an okay song, much better with the video. The whole cd is ranges from 'alright' to 'meh' to 'CRAP' "Halo 2 is a lot like Halo 1, only it's Halo 1 on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas ... And, the ninjas are all on fire, too."
eMOTIVe is quite crap. But then I usually try to not have high hopes when it comes to cover albums, so it's not as if the album has failed to reach my expectations. Yes, Imagine is probably the best track on the album, but the term 'best' is very relative in this instance. |
I like The Haunted's rEVOLVEr better, because at least their caps make sense. |
Interesting. That's a big trunk. It fits a tuba, a suitcase, a dead dog, and a garment bag almost perfectly.

Well, I suspect if enough stores break day and date, they'll go ahead and activate it this weeked. I'm sure valve will push the publisher, but only if they have enough forum noise and pissed off customers to show them. This is why my friend bought it at Best Buy yesterday. He was hoping if enough people bought it, Valve would turn on the spigot. Looks like th news post from Steam says no. APC's cover of "Imagine" is outstanding in my opinion. The rest of "eMOTIVe" is pretty good but not up to that standard. Heard it on Howard Stern a few days ago, hated it. Actually, the liberalism of the media - as a general thing - IS a major fallacy. What the media is, is a whore. -LP

Well, one does have to take into account how pissed off Viv has been at Valve. I think it's pretty stupid, not how you do business. I mean, if an Italian gets pissed at you, he just has someone wacked. When LP says he's bringing Armageddon, he brings fucking Armageddon. - Caryn, 6/01/2004

I think the cover of "Imagine" is droning and poor. |
Technical question: When I play valve games (any, from the original half life to counterstrike:source) - I seem to have a problem with my sound. It sounds totally pitched down, so all the soundeffects etc seem like they are played at -90% speed. Very strange, never had a problem with other games (battlefield, doom3, worms, maxpayne, etc etc). Anyone got an idea what this could be? |
I also hate the Imagine cover. On a different subject, after my weekly roast dinner at my parents' place, I was called upon to clean my dad's laptop of a "virus" which he had been emailed about. The email, purportedly from administrator@bigpond.com (my dad's ISP), told him to solve his spam relay problem by downloading a .zip file, extracting the .exe inside and running it. Yes, it was a virus. However, Dad was not only relieved to hear he had neither a spam relay problem nor a virus problem any more, but he was exultant that his anti-virus strategy had worked again - his laptop is dual-boot Windows XP/98, ostensibly because he has to use an old 98 app for his work, but he has decided to do all his Web surfing and emailing in 98... AS A SECURITY MEASURE. He had done all that the email had asked him, but the .exe didn't work in 98 and thus he wasn't infected. I've got to hand it to the old man: he may not be smart enough to spot a sucker punch virus email when he sees one, but using 98 sure does neutralise most modern vectors of infection. |
I still use 3.1 for workgroups. Not a virus in sight. |
MSDOS 3 here. "Halo 2 is a lot like Halo 1, only it's Halo 1 on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas ... And, the ninjas are all on fire, too."

Do they coat those patties in mucus or something? When the guy flipped them over, they splattered. I've done griddle patties and they are not supposed to do that. Also, pressing down on them like that pushes all the yummy juices out. I also heartily suggest checking out "Mr T's Be Somebody or Be Somebody's Fool." As a gag, a friend of mine put it on VCD for me and it is some of the greatest stuff ever! |

Quick wireless question. I'm finally setting up my network(so prepare for lots of questions) and I'm also getting on Xbox Live. I found a wireless game adapter from Linksys, that is $35 cheaper than the xbox wireless adapter, but its B instead of G. Will it slow my whole network down, and if so will it only slow down when the xbox is on, or always? Actually, the liberalism of the media - as a general thing - IS a major fallacy. I think it will, Jeremy. Unfortunately, I've never administered/built a hybrid WiFi network to tell you if it does or not. I know that on a 10/100 wired network, connectivity will only drop to 10Mbps when talking with that particular device. I don't really know if WiFi works on the same principle, or if it has to drop all speeds because of the omnidirectional signalling. Depending on how the WiFi bridge works, I imagine as long as its turned on, it'll cause the rest of the network to throttle down. Again, I can't say for certain, since I'm not sure if the bridge goes into some sort of sleep state when its not recieving a signal from the device its plugged into (this case, the Xbox). That was an awful lot for, "I don't know." Sorry. |
Is this Valve idiocy a one-time product activation deal, or does HL2 single play depend upon Steam for each run? If Valve wishes to innovate, they would do well to also keep customers apprised of "justwhattenthefucksthedealguys". Beat to fit, paint to match.

The retail box installer requires a one time check with Steam. After that you can play it on a disconnected machine if you like. |
That imagine cover that's playing on the radio is horrible. Neil Young's 911 tribute cover was better. |

You are correct Eyegore. That Imagine is shit. Living in the rat race smoking rat weed

#147 Hugin The retail box installer requires a one time check with Steam. After that you can play it on a disconnected machine if you like. Is that so? I remember that every time I wanted to play the Steamed version of Half Life, I had to be online. Did they change this? |

#151 Duality #147 Hugin I remember that every time I wanted to play the Steamed version of Half Life, I had to be online. Did they change this? LONG time ago. #144 Mank Binarysun? dang...what did I miss? You guys sell BB and make a gajillion bucks or sumthin? and danke for the link. Warren sold Respawn Games for tens of dollars and moved north in anticipation of the election results. Or got arrested for child porn, I can't remember which. The media doesn't educate, it sensationalizes. That's why there's no learning curve, just repeated bouts of gross stupidity. Bailey
Sucks that Warren's no longer having fun with the side business. I was hoping to throw a few dollars at him to make him dance like a developer or something. Though if he really has been arrested for child porn, he must have been having his own fun anyway! |
Twenty-three and a half hours now, bitches. |
I remember Warren saying here just before he left us that Epic 'asked' him to shut down Respawn. Apparently something in his contract says he's not supposed to be making games for anyone except Epic. "Halo 2 is a lot like Halo 1, only it's Halo 1 on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas ... And, the ninjas are all on fire, too."
