It did seem touchy, but that's ok. It's good to get pissed at PC every few months or so.

I wasn't pissed at anyone. I was just saying that I don't get the joke because I've already explained that it's no longer accurate. Recently, no less. Like... yesterday.

I could be pissed I suppose, but it doesn't really matter. People can make fun of it, or they can be understanding and sympathetic and blah blah blah. Either way, it doesn't affect that I essentially lost two years of my life. I'm not happy about that, but I don't give a fuck what other people think about it.

I'm not happy about that, but I don't give a fuck what other people think about it.

And you're embarassed by what you do.  And you hate other people.  And you hate going to concerts, movies, etc.

This all builds to an image of a shut-in.

It can build to whatever type of image you'd like. Doesn't make it accurate.

I like going out, and I do it frequently. I just don't like going out to places where I will be stuck in the middle of a large group of people.

I fail to see how being embarassed by my work has any effect on whether I'm a shut-in or not. That's simply solved by either not talking about the work, or talking about it in broad terms. "I design websites and make graphics for a living, while trying to start a writing career" is a statement that typically gets an "Oh, cool!" response, and I don't feel at all bad about saying it.

Also, Warren's not dating the stripper anymore and Bailey's not having wild butt sex anymore.  Doesn't matter if you've changed, you're always the same loner to us.

chris, I thought the shut-in comments were funny, but only in relation to your abject hatred of most things, including people.  I just imagine you don't do many things that involve other people.  Nothing to do with whatever disabilities you have (I don't even know the details), because I don't think of you as a disabled person, but as a cranky person whom I might like in RL.

Kinda like Charles, but I think Charles and I would have battle instead of being friends.

The only disabilities I knew/suspected chris had were an unidentifiable condition, an inability to eat more than once a day, and slight case of agoraphobia. Or possibly claustrophobia.

So what happened yesterday chris?

I went to the mall, wandered around for a while, purchased a mother's day gift, bought a DVD, went to a coffee shop, exchanged some flirty eye contact with the SMOKING HOT chick working the counter (hot enough that I'm going back today), went to the grocery store and bought some food, then helped out my parents by going out to pick up my sisters at balet school.

Not bad for a thursday night, especially when my main friend in this area is out of state for six weeks for an opera performance.

Really? Most people who are shut-ins are terrified of running errands.

Last weekend I spent all of saturday night hanging out at several bars with my friends. Maybe that's up to your standards of what qualifies as "getting out"?

Or do I have to wedge myself into a hot, crowded, smelly movie theatre so that I can pay too much to see a shitty movie that I'll regret having gone to, in order to qualify?

So tonight I get to take it back. Which is at least a convenient excuse to go enjoy the view at both Best Buy (hot chick #1) and the coffee shop (hot chick #2).

For taking hidden-cam, voyeur shots of people who would probably rather not have their pictures pasted all over the net? Yes, they indeed are. In my opinion, the things are a menace and I won't be at all surprised when legislation is introduced against them.

Having recently bought a new cell phone, I'd say that if you are serious about never owning a phone with picture-taking capabilities you go out now and hoard all the cameraless cell phones you can find, because it is getting very difficult to buy one that doesn't have a camera built in.

I don't think that's going to work.  Asking people you don't know if you can take their picture is inherently creepy.  You know she's going to be thinking that he's getting it so he can whack-off to it.

I find my camera phone is good for taking pictures of things I see that I want to remember : something at a store that I might go back and get later but want someone elses opinion on, or whatever.

They're also fun for just fooling around with and passing the time if you're standing in line for something or waiting for food at a restaurant.

Yeh, I know. :\

And considering my two year old phone is now so "old" that I can't even get replacement batteries for it without special-ordering, I don't imagine I'm going to have much choice.

Maybe I'll just spraypaint the lens black when I do end up with a cameraphone.

Well, one, I was joking.  Two, I actually do wander around taking pictures of people (among other things) if I find them interesting looking.  A surprising number of people actually want/like having their picture taken.  Of course, I take pictures of kids, old people, dogs, married couples, it's not a scheme to get pics of babes.

To me, it's more that I don't want something in my phone that someone spent time getting right that could have been used to make the other functions of the phone better, since I don't want a camera phone (right now, anyway). In fact, I turned down a "upgrade your phone, FREE!" offer from AT&T because the only phones they offered I didn't consider as being better than the one I have -- they were all camera phones and looked like they were geared to the teenage LED set. My phone's a workin' woman's phone, dammit.

Hey, the other day I dropped my phone on the ground on the way into work.  Knocked the battery off the back and gave it a nice scuff mark.  Pieced it back together and it still works like new.

I don't think the camera part is causing anyone to slack off in design or quality...

The thing that gets me about camera phones is the increase in size for a feature that I do not desire.  I keep my phone on vibrate in my pocket at all times, so every decrease is size for the phone (aside from keypad requirements) is good.  Hopefully the attachement method will still be hip next time I need a new phone.
